floyd the barber Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 i know i know i know, we all desperate for this lad to succeed, he is after a local boy plus with the two broken legs hes suffered it would be fantastic if he were to make the left back spot his own...but.............Lets be honest, he just isnt good enough...his positional play is appalling, his distribution is poor, he lacks pace...basically all the requirements for a good left bk he doesnt have.. If warnock was a foreign export he would be getting slammed right now...
alias75 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 He aint good enough if we want to be winning titles. Gives the ball away too much in posession and i can remember 3 or 4 goals this season that have been because Warnock hasnt been in line with the other defenders. He will always be totally committed but so would i if i played for Liverpool but i still aint good enough.
floyd the barber Posted February 5, 2006 Author Posted February 5, 2006 Made some killer tackles today. yes he did, doesnt hide the fact that most of his game is very poor..
Cisse Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 He will never be world-class but I think he was decent today
Guest Aussie_Red Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 (edited) Apart from some killer tackles he was too exposed today and Hyypia had been drawn out to help him too much as well. I would love nothing more than a team of scousers, but the way I see it is if Stevie Warnock wasn't our own product he would be deemed very average with flaws. I don't think our side needs much tinkering, we need to establish a permanent defence and midfield. Why did Benitez change our tactics so much for this game? It made our lack of goal hopes so much more fleeting. Edited February 5, 2006 by Aussie_Red
Andyjandy Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Something else that's s*** about us is Sissoko's distribution.

Tosh Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 He will never be world-class but I think he was decent todayWith you on that. Not world beating but learning and getting better Surprised he was in the 11, and somewhat surprised he survivied the 1st substitution (Riise), but as the "new" member of that back 4, he did alright and better than other games. Not going to be flamed by me.
gkmacca Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 His concentration goes sometimes, but I fear the whole of the defence looks a bit mentally tired (even more so than physically), and I can see why they are. Carra was barking at everyone superbly when we were on that run, and it was as if the four were tied to each other, but they're a little jaded at present.

I think they haven't been that 'world class' since our clean sheet record was broken. Just think how exhausted the defence will be by the end of February. I think we've just played too much this season, its stupid. And we have to play a game every wednesday and sat/sunday for the rest of the season practically with all of our cup competitions and games in hand. We really could of done with a christmas break or for those stupid idiots to let us qualify for the champions league like champions.

Ste M Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Aside from the goal he was fine. You could level that at Traore in most of his displays. I'm not a fan of Warnock at all, and I think he's actually our worst left back.
Guest Sabre Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I don't think the lad is good enough unfortunately. It is Chelsea's game to get the ball wide, drag defenders to that side of the pitch and then get the ball central for either a shot or a pass to put someone in one on one. Warnock was often too hesitant today or not anticipating the play well enough to keep them out of our left hand side. He didn't help Riise at all out there and Sami was having to cover for him or double up with him. I'm only saying this because there's a thread - his performance today was no different to his other performances - average.
Paddy 66 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Sadly i have to agree that Warnock looked average today and his positioning for there second was awful. riise has to be LB with Kewell or Garcia in front of him. It's not the first time Warnock has cost us this season.
Leo No.8 Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 What disappoints me about him is I think he has the ability to be a good Premier League left-back, but his concentration and decision-making are terrible. He makes bad choices when he passes the ball far too often; you could probably highlight 5 or 6 times through the game when he gave the ball away under no pressure at all. We could also have been punished when he gave it away to Cole straight after we'd conceded the first - again he made the wrong choice by trying to carry the ball out and being too casual. Later on in the game, again his lack of concentration was to blame when we conceded the second goal as he was strolling out, fully 5 yards behind the centre-halves rendering Crespo onside. As someone else said, if Traore had made the same errors he'd have been massacred; Warnock was very poor indeed yesterday.
Sara Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Warnock has worried me for most of the season. I really want the lad to succeed but the more I see him play the more I thnk it ain't gonna happen.
Flasher Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I think he needs regular games. Defending is so hard when you're not playing with the same people regularly. I hate this stepping up for off-side all the time. The line only needs breaking once in 90 minutes and bang. I know why we play it, just don't like it. The sooner Agger is fit and ready the better.
Kenny_ Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I really like the lad. His enthusiasm and passion for the red shirt is great to watch. Not a bad player as well. But honestly I don't think he's good enough to play left back at a regular basis. A decent cover, nothing more. I don't feel really safe when he's playing to be fair. Decent left peg, good tackler and his commitment and attitude is spot on, but feel he lacks a lot tactically. Riise is the best option for left back IMO. Though he had a part to play in Chelsea's second goal last night and bit sloppy at one occasion where Cole nearly scored in the first half, I thought he didn't do too badly last night.
