Harry Kewell reborn!

I was a bit unwilling to get too caught up in his good form, cos I kept thinking the mockers where waiting

But fec it.

The lad is really playing now isn't he!

And if ever a goal was due and deserved, today was the day. He is one very confident player now.

I always thought today was going to be a tough game. And the way Spurs set 'emselves up, that was clear. They wanted the 0-0 draw. Bit of a frustrating first half, where we had 2 or 3 half chances, but couldn't take one, and also couldn't really dominate the game. So going into the second half, i reckoned, 1 niler all over this. Well that or a 0-0

It was always going to take something special. And some credit for Spurs organisation for that.

And something special it took. Great cross and a great finish.

Very happy with that result. Cos some of our key players where not on great form. Xabi, Gerrard, Crouchy - all seemed to be off their game a bit. But we still had that something extra to get us through.

And another game that we've improved our result from last season.

didn't waste the ball as much today and didn't dissappear like he is prone to.

I'm not a harry fan because I don;t think he can deliver his potential on a consistant basis but I'll be happy if he can carry on this form or better.

Waste the ball? You're on another f*cken planet.

Kewell's passing game is stronger than most people care to realise. People like you who bark abuse at him at every opportunity because in the past he was never physically able to put in the hard yards as well as make the quick feet shifts and long strides to take on people. His possession game since his run of 7/8 matches in a row he's started has been solid, his use of the ball helping the flow of attacks.

His crossing is a bit here and there sometimes I'll give you that, but on average in the past 10 matches he has been very econonical in his use of the ball.

Hes only going from strength to strength each match and that goal will do his confidence a world of good. He looks like a very bright spark in the team at the moment and always looks like he will do something with the ball. Graduated to a definite starter.

I've lost count of the number of times I've had to tell people to shut up when they're shouting abuse at Kewell. He started off great for us when he first signed, then his form took a dip and he's been playing through an injury for the sake of the team for the remainder. Is it any wonder that now he's match fit he's starting to put in good performances again.

I think there's a definate split on Kewell, some people hate him, and I fear will never accept him now, maybe just so they wont have to admit they're wrong. Another group, myself included, really want the lad to excell and we're all just waiting for it to happen.

So we'll take that as the nearest you'll ever get to 'Sorry Harry, I totally misjudged your character and ability'. :D

I deffo fancied Kewell for first goal, and he was gonna be that bet with a scorecast elsewhere. He's been really unlucky with a few efforts recenty, and was about due a goal

Anyway - I was looking at the odds when my cousin pointed at Kewell 2-0 - at exactly the time I was looking at it. I fancied Kewell for the first goal anyway, so went with it. I said to her at the time that I'm gonna be cursing her after, and I'd tell her why after.

Sure enough - Kewell gets the first goal, and my scorecast doesn't come in!! Should have stuck with my first feeling!!

At least I get my money back on Lil Luis!

In the last 3 scorecasts I've done I've had the right scorer, and been dead close each time:

Boro - I had Morientes 3-0 and it was 2-0

Newcastle - I had Gerrard 2-0 (cam in at 55/1)

Spurs - I had Kewell 2-0 and it was 1-0

So close but yet so far - Can't retire yet :(

Anyway.... I'm not sure exactly when - I usually get a feeling on the day of the match, but Big Sami is due a goal soon.

Best bit about his 'comback' is him chasing back and putting some hits in- flattening Bowyer the other week being a case in point.

I've always been a HK fan but this extra dimension that Rafa seems to have added really mkes him something special.

Gotta say, his tackling back & overall level of aggression has surprised me. If he can build on his recent performances we will have the Harry Kewell we'd all hoped for

But a different animal to the Leeds model. In those days he wasnt one to get stuck, but we require it from him and it seems as if he may be able to step up.

my opinion of him hasnt; changed - He'll have to produce the form that we all know he can reach on a consistent basis (over a period of time not just a few games) before I'll be proved wrong. I sincerely hope I am wrong - but lets give it a bit more time yet.

One of the problems with Harry is that he's a flair player - Like Luis - some of the stuff he can do will totally undo defenses - other times its a cheap give away of the ball when the easy pass was there- very frusrating. However given that Rafa likes goal scorring midfielders instead of relyign on forwards then harrys always in with a shout of a game -not sure we'll see Kewell and Garcia in the starting line up together too often - unless we are playign with just one forward.

certainly seems to be throwing his weight around a lot better. ;) think his upper body strength's really under-rated. reminds me a little of dalglish the way he shrugs off defenders, or holds them off with his big backside.

think there's still a bit more to come in terms of speed off the mark and confidence and power of movement from side-to-side.

That seems to be the minimum requirement for a Benitez team - everyones workrate off the ball has improved no end.Thats a big part of our upturn in form.

Thought Harry was good yesterday, my MOM, and his ability and effectiveness are showing more in every game he plays. Shows what a run in the team will do for a player.

I wonder though if Harry would have got that run had Zenden not been out?

For me he's by far the better option of the two at LM.

I also wonder how that position will shape up if/when Gonzalez comes into the fold?

Carra praise for Kewell

By Paul Higham - Created on 15 Jan 2006

Jamie Carragher says that having a fit Harry Kewell in the side is like having a new player at Anfield.

Kewell marked his returning fitness with a thumping winner for Liverpool against Tottenham at Anfield on Saturday, which had the once critical Kop chanting his name.

The Australian has insisted through his bad spell that he would be a different player if he could only return to something like full fitness, and that seems to be bearing fruit now as he enjoys a settled run in the side.

Carragher has been quick to back his team-mate, saying the criticism he took after limping off in the UEFA Champions League final was unjust.

The centre back says that Kewell is not yet fully fit, but is already showing that he can be a real asset to the European champions when back on song.

"He'd had a lot of stick. But he shouldn't take any criticism for the stuff in Istanbul for coming off in the Champions League final," said Carragher.

"He'd snapped his groin, so it's out of order to get criticism for that. But we are all delighted with him now, it's like having a new player.

"What happened in Istanbul was sad, and he's getting the fans back on his side. And goals like the winner against Spurs can only help.

"He can add a lot to us. You only have to look at the England team to know it is difficult to find good quality left-sided players.

"The way he has been playing for us recently and the way he played at Leeds scoring and creating, shows he can be one of the best in Europe on the left.

"Harry believes that when he is fit - and that hasn't happened for a lot of the time he has been here - he can do some damage.

"At the moment he is not quite 100 percent and he's playing this well. With more games and more fitness he will be even better."

Liverpool are entering a tough run of games with matches against Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal really testing their resolve.

The Reds are only a point behind United after their derby defeat at Manchester City, which sets up their meeting at Old Trafford on Sunday nicely.

"We were delighted to see Robbie (Fowler) and Manchester City get a great result against them before our game kicked off and hopefully we can do the same at Old Trafford next week.

"It was in the back of our minds that United had lost and it helped to give us a lift. It sets up next weekend nicely."
