Optimistic and open minded about the appointment of Rodgers, but it's a concern that the DOF role has been virtually scrapped after one failed appointment, though a greater role for Segura is interesting

My prediction is a very good start to the season.

Perhaps if the idea is pitched in a different spirit to 'they must answer for not talking to Rafa and both they and the supporters committee can f*** off if they don't think it's a good idea" it might come off as more agreeable.

Well I didnt say that. My question relates to the structure. Lets hope its a lot more transparent when they announce the new employees

That was pretty much how Molby pitched though, and it was his opener you were following up on.

we have a supporters committee no?

if I were on that committe I'd be wanting to sit down with someone and listen to them explain what this new structure is all about and how it will work

after all, they're tearing up the rule book, sacking Kenny and ignoring Rafa, all in the context of no stadium or prospect thereof and not much money compared to what we need if we take the conventional route (sign good players before next season)

so we're apparently taking a smarter (cheaper) route to success, with this new structure are we? ok let's hear about it

if such a meeting is not desireable for the supporters committe then they can f*** off

if FSG won't entertain it then they can f*** off

It's pretty much exactly what you said.

just to be clear: when I write a business email, I don't open with "dear so and so......I'd like to start by telling you on a contingent basis to f*** off" this is a footy forum

what I actually said was that as we have a supporters committee that they approved, round about now would be a good time for them to meet up so that FSG can explain their strategy and that I would be very disappointed if either party did not have the will to see this through

I've put it here rather than Rodgers own thread because it's as much if not more about the owners than him. I hope he does well, obviously, and he's come across about as well as is possible in one press conference.

However,

I'm not going thread-digging, but there were plenty of positive comments after Hodgson's first press conference, and there's plenty being glossed over here:

Henry's comments about giving time - but not for Kenny, eh John?

the continuing saga of The Structure, which seems to have been backed down on in the face of the first choice managerial candidate not wanting it. But it's happening, honestly, just in a way that means that the manager is ultimately in control, like every other English club and not actually like the European (or whatever) model, and bringing in all of his own staff to populate most of the other positions in the revised Structure.

the first choice candidate not actually looking like it, given the flirting with Martinez. Nothing to do with Whelan's tedious proclamations - just the fact that Henry met Martinez over there. If Rodgers was first choice you'd think they'd try a bit harder to meet him first, especially given their apparent willingness to back down on said structure.

After all the justifiable scepticism that's been displayed over the last couple of weeks, I'd have thought it'd take more than a well managed unveiling press conference to have most people cooing and giving all involved far more than the benefit of the doubt. And that's without talking about the stadium, transfer budgets, and the continuing employment of Ayre.

Actually the proposed structure is nothing new to Liverpool, it's the boot room revisited. Think you're wrong in that I believe he was first choice. He's now manager of Liverpool he has my 100% support. Impressed so far

This will be the last I will write/say on this, but here are quotes from the horses mouth:

“The idea is rather than one person being responsible for all the elements Damien’s role took on, we will divide up the responsibilities,” Ayre said. “We will have a slightly different structure so there will be two or three positions within that. Running a big football club is a big challenge. It’s evident we need to focus on each area with a specialist who will deliver value in each area.”

“I wouldn’t go as far as to say the manager’s job will only be a training ground role but absolutely the idea is to create a structure so that the manager doesn’t need to focus on too much else.

“You want the manager to be focused on getting the best out of his team. But what it absolutely isn’t about is bringing players in without the manager’s input.

“In the past a manager would be going to look at 20 or 30 different games just to find one player. Whereas with the right structure someone lines all of that up and the manager is just going to the final interview.

“We are trying to create as much resource and expertise in all the areas that serve the manager and the team rather than having one or two people trying to achieve everything. We not looking to copy any other club. It will have Liverpool’s own stamp and structure on it.”

“What’s important is we’ve got the right structure to run the club in the right way. One of the announcements we will make in the next week or so will be about someone working with me to continue delivering the important revenue streams.

“Winning the FA Cup wouldn’t have made any difference – it was never about an individual result. It was always about taking a review of the season in full.

“The Carling Cup and The FA Cup don’t generate the revenue and the success that is needed to keep investing. If you want to be successful, you have got to keep investing. People don’t want to hear that football is a business

“I agree you can’t keep changing (managers) and as long as what you expect in terms of moving forwards is achieved, of course you give that person the time and support they need. But there is a difference between that and failure. If you massively get it wrong then of course you have to make that change. You expect targets to be achieved.

For the owners it’s been a process of bedding in, understanding and reviewing the entire structure of the business. We hope the people who come in as part of this new plan are there for the long term. What’s coming together now we believe is the way forward.”

Thank Christ for that.

For me it's the imminent arrival of Begiristain that has made a massive difference.

Always well into Rodgers and his style of football. My concern was with scouting, recruiting the right players and taking possession and pressing into wins. That's what I see strategically as being genuine concerns if it was just Rodgers and his boys coming in.

Begiristain is a game changer.

Rodgers/Begiristain/Segura/ ? is literally a dream team.

"Brendan's comprehensive football philosophy is perfectly aligned with those at the club and those soon to join the club. He was the first choice unanimously among them and he had no hesitation at all in embracing exactly what we want to try to build at Liverpool.

I wonder if conversations taking place with Txiki Beguiristain mean that they will work together
