épieur Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Despite having Lucas as my MoM, I actually thought Spearing had a good game today. He was poor in possession, but I am impressed with his ability to keep up with the pace and intensity of these games on the defensive side. Five months ago, I figured he would move on as a decent but ultimately average player to play regularly for a club and actually have a premiership career. He is looking like a better tackler and covers more ground these days than I thought he could though. I'm revising my opinion of him to decent with promise of more to come. He'll never be gifted technically and if he moves on it will be because of this, but I am interested to see if he can learn to keep his composure on the ball with some more experience. If he does that and keeps developing the defensive aspect of his game, I think he'll make for a nice player in the squad, even as we look to move forwards and upwards. Well done, lad.
Cobs Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 He was better than Lucas today - that's 2 games in a row where he's been our main man in midfield. He's stayed patient, getting his chance and taking it. Chuffed for him.
CarraLegend Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 He was excellent, didnt think he had these performances in him. Watch out though, David Hodgson doesnt like threads praising individual players. Oh no, thats just Lucas you're alright!
Cobs Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 He needs to just grow he's like a bird that you really fancy but she's a bit too small and bald for you to think it's gonna last a long time. He's Gail Porter.

Rimbeux Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Gives the kind of energy Masch used to and is developing a lot of confidence. Got away with a big error though.

épieur Posted April 17, 2011 Author Posted April 17, 2011 deffo Interesting that both Lucas & Spearing have looked better players without Gerrard in the team #biscansyndromeI am not sure about that last one. Gerrard has actually looked like a composed and experienced central midfielder this season (when he hasn't been recovering from injury) and, unlike the recurring problem with him playing with someone like Masch or Momo, Spearing and Lucas both seem to find the balance playing with him well enough. Unlike Raul, I am actually starting to trust Gerrard in a midfield two.

And I will remain consistent in that. he's like a bird that you really fancy but she's a bit too small and bald for you to think it's gonna last a long time. He's Gail Porter. Who was that Dr Who baddie from the 70s with no neck and a funny head ? He's him.
Epic Swindle Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 He's no Zidane but his technique is fine for a young squad player.
Cam Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 he's like a bird that you really fancy but she's a bit too small and bald for you to think it's gonna last a long time. He's Gail Porter. He's done well since Kenny took over and - at the moment - looks like he could save us a fair few quid on a squad player.
Cheesecake Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 it looks like it could be a case where the player gets a run of games in the team, has the backing of the manager and is getting used to the role and the responsibility of playing in centre midfield. kind of like an accelerated version of what happened to Lucas.
aka Dus Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Let's be honest though, that peno he gave away was a brain dead tackle. Enthusiastic to a fault defined.

Also looks like he'll play the rest of the games in there this season.
Gunga Din Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 performances like the last couple will make the lad feel 5ft tall he's like a rubbish Sammy Lee
Swipe Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 He had a touch of the Mascheran nuisance-makers today. Bet Arsenal were very frustrated with him buzzing about.
Hassony Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Spearing is as good as Guttuso and that c*** won the CL and the world cup
Eiler99 Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 He was good again today. Shouldn't have given away the pen but did everything else well.
Macedonian_Red Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Spearing will have a long and productive career in some weaker Premier League / stronger Championship club ... He is a decent player, and has his moments, but we will need superior players if we are to challenge for honors ... I know that people would suggest him as a squad option, but we have some more talented youngsters coming through the ranks (Shelvey, Coady) ... At the moment, Spearing is doing his role, but I don't see a long term future for him at LFC ...
