Bit of a coup if true, 24 year old, creative pacy wide left player with an eye for goal.

 

Can also play through the middle, and at left back apparently.

 

On verge of call up to full French squad prior to groin injury which will keep him out for rest of season - an obvious concern.

 

I would be very optimistic that he would represent a major step up in quality by comparison to our recent Bosmans (Cole/Jovanovic).

 

I feel we need five, possibly six additions to challenge the top four next year.

 

1. Young pacy centre half, good in the air.

 

2. Top quality left back.

 

3. Holding midfielder as competiton for Lucas in that role, instead of Poulsen, Gerrard and Meireles as a partnership in central midfield wont work.

 

4. Pacy creative wide player, prefereably two footed, to provide ammunition for Carroll, and add the pace we are so sadly lacking at the moment.

 

5. Another striker, two quality strikers is not enough in a squad that has top four aspirations, N'gog is not up to it, and Dirk is not the answer in the longterm.

 

6. If there is any cash left over, then a second wide player would be very welcome, especially if we are to utilise Carroll to maxmium effect.

 

So............ if Marveaux is en route on a free, he constitutes one of the wide players, and without any expense, other than signing on fee etc - this frees up more funds to spend on strengthening other positions.

 

If, for example, the net effect of this meant signing the likes of Hazard, instead of say Young or N'zogbia, it would be great business.

 

Anyone know anything about Marveaux - has he agreed to join, and if so how good is he???

Im hoping we sign the following players...

 

1. Fabio Coentrao - top quality attacking left back ideal if we're going to persist with 3 at the back, we could move Johnson to the right and use Kelly as a CB

 

2. Ashley Young - been hearing strong rumours that this is a done deal for a while, was a little unsure but was really impressed by his last performance for England, could play as a traditional wide player but can also play more centrally, with Carroll up front we're going to need wide players with good delivery and he fits the bill pretty well.

 

3. Yann M'Villa - i agree we need another central midfielder as we saw this weekend we lack options in there when we get 1 injury and we can't rest players when they need it because we have little strnegth in depth, was really impressed by M'Villa when England played France and he is someone we've been linked with before.

 

I do think Kelly could save us millions on a centre back, if we got a top quality left back in we could move Johnson back to the right and Kelly could play as CB, he has everything we're looking for hes quick, strong in the air and good on the ball.

Seriously, this is big s*** and, coincidentally, my mid-life crisis has been temporarily put on hold. I will be surprised if we have that sort of money. There is £50m easy there.
