Crouch was a bit of a wimp, considering his height should have made him incredibly awkward for defenders

yeah but, great touch. For a big lad

OK, how about the "Top 10 Anfield Softies"?

Ruddock, Ince, Molby, Hamann, Grobbelar? Surely they jest..

Ruddock was a bingo playing OAP in a Frankenstein costume, Ince was all marrrrf and no trousers, Molby and Hamann were softer than two great soft things in softening juice.. And rabbit-slappin the once sparrow-like McManaman hardly qualifies a place next to asassins like Souness, Smith and Case.

Where's Gerrard and Carra on that list?

ruddock was a f***ing big tart.

Aye. Its ridiculous to have him in there.

Souness, Smith and Case are the obvious candidates. The less obvious candidates are the no-nonsense defenders like Henchoz and the sly midfielders like Whelan.

i'd have whelan in there. other unsung hardmen are people like mcallister and dalglish. never saw either of them two take any sh*t in their careers.

Whelan missing out on this list is a disgrace

Ruddock was hard tbf, he just was often too slow to get to the man to display said hardness. He broke both of Andy Cole's legs. That's gotta be worthy of inclusion.

Depends what you mean by hard men I suppose. Kenny and Ray Kennedy were hard men for example. But they didn't go around t***ting folk. Whelan did. And he played through a broken leg. That's hard

Hated Ruddock for his unprofessional attitude and the way he bought into his hardman reputation, but his quote about the Cole incident is his best moment ever. Something like "I didn't break both of Andy Cole's legs, I only broke one. He broke the other one when he hit the ground"

Wasn't it in a reserve game or something?

that was his finest hour. like Ruddock with Cantona.

he was another fake hardman though, McAteer. Always arriving at the kerfuffle a few seconds too late.

i always picture mcateer giving it some from behind the shield of a team-mate. sami hyypia was and is ten times as hard as ruddock. all gob and no b*llocks ruddock.

I remember him tackling that centre forward that played at Oldham (McCarthy?) at boundary park.

It was the hardest clean tackle I've seen.

I heard Hyypia breaking Eranio's leg against Derby some years back. Saw him (Sami) after the game chatting to Poom woithout a care in the world. Ruddock was a big tart - never forgive him for his UEFA Cup display against Strasbourg around 98 when he was s**** in a 3-0 defeat and then walked off as slowly as he could when eventually substituted. Fat Cockney Tart.

right infront of us that, it was bone shuddering.

How Ian St John isnt on there I am unsure?

Joey Jones reckoned that Ray Kennedy was nails in Jones's autobiography
