The defending on Babel's goal was hilarious. He had time to stop, wonder where the ball was, turn round " Ooooh, there it is ! ", and then slowly prod it into the net. Now that's Babel Time.

Newcy are probs better away from home against good signs as they can justifiably stick everyone on the goal line.

You'd think after 10, 20 certainly 30 minutes of him being given absolute freedom with neither Guthrie or Butt bothered about being anywhere near him (they'd look over, see him in acres of space and then leave him) that Kinnear would twig and think "Hmmm, best start marking him". I'm sure Rafa/Sammy taking him off was an act of mercy.

I just watched the highlights from Match of the Day, and I didn't imagine that one! For virtually every passage of play shown in the highlights Gerrard had at least 10 yards of free space around him.

 

After the 4-5th shot on goal you would think Kinnear would tell Butt or Guthrie to just not let Gerrard out of their sights. They were allowing Gerrard a free role to do whatever he wanted, but he just isn't one of those players that should be afforded that luxury when he is playing like that!

They could sign the four best defenders in the world, the best 'keeper, the remaining six players having great reputations for helping out defensively and the most tactically astute manager in the world and they'd still manage to be shyte.
