Presuming that Torres is definitely out and there's a strong chance that Stevie will be on the bench at best (ES said out till Stoke), do we have the players to finally get a league win over the Mancs? They're missing Ronaldo and haven't loked great but will have Berbatov making his debut.

I'd go 4-4-2 with

Reina

Dossena

Carragher

Skrtl

Arbeloa

Reira

Alonso

Mascherano

Babel

Kuyt

Keane.

Here's hoping that missing Torres could be a blessing in disguise.

If Keane and Kuyt up front and Babel and Riera link up well they could be in for a surprise.

If all players are used in their best positions, that is.

I can also see Keane having his best game for us so far.

I'd take a draw if we played half decent, but we really need to start winning the top four at home now.

Us v Mancs, Can we do it without Torres and Gerrard? No. I'd bite their hands off for a draw right now.

That's a bit defeatist. Newcastle drew at Old Trafford and Zenit beat them recently.

If they're both out, i can't see us winning.

Not only will we miss our two best players, but Rafa will no doubt go ultra defensive if they're out

Perhaps we can beat them and if we do I'll be shocked. I'd still take the draw right now rather than

watching them lord around Anfield again having beaten us yet again.

i wouldnt.... as frightened as I am I just wouldnt give up even the smallest hope of beating them... lets be honest though, it isnt exactly impossible like... we're not out of first gear but neither are they...

no. we can't. well, rather we could do it, but we won't. i wish i could be more positive here but without stevie and nando it will be even more difficult than it would have been anyway. I'm hoping for a 0-0.

I'll admit utd haven't been spectacular so far this season either but if villa can keep us at bay they'll have no problem.

sorry to be so pessimistic.

But surely if you go by that line of thinking, if Newcastle can hold them at home then we should have no problem at Anfield?

which might work seeing as thats the tactic they always use against us at Anfield.

We'll line up to stop them scoring, We'll get hit late on with an O'shea or Fletcher late goal (or god forbid a ROOOONEEEYYY/Motson special) and watch them prance about like they've won the league and we'll wonder why oh why did we play that way. You know the usual. Christ I'm not going to watch it actually.

with any luck rooney will be injured from the england - croatia game. be berbatov's debut won't it?

Yep it will. Hopefully berbatov will play like the lazy dog he is.

I think they will both play.

Postive thinking.

I wouldn't be that confident in us winning with both in the side given our current form so without them it would be very difficult.

Go and beat them, draw my a***. Would they be happy with a draw v anyone at their pit? If we've any intentions this year, beating the likes of UTD at home is paramount.

this is one of our biggest problems in making the leap from top four to top two, besides the squad depth / financial muscle, it's the belief in being able to beat these eleven vs eleven. even minus torres and gerrard we've got enough quality to give them more than a game, particularly with them lacking ronaldo and hargreaves, we just never look to have the self-belief to do it. get out there, bombard the c****, shoot on sight and have a real go for a change instead of the insipid surrendering we've done recently. there's no excuse not to since our expectation level against them will be lower than usual in torres and gerrard's absences.

Of course we can - anything can happen in a one-off game. It only takes a set-piece goal/moment of brilliance from us/mistake from then followed by a strong rearguard action.

I suspect we do need to score first, though.

Very True.

I have to say though Rafa must start Keane upfront with Kuyt, strikers on the wings will just not cut it v Man Utd. To draw wouldn't be the end of the world, but at the end of the day we need a performance, and we need to start beating and playing off the pack the other 3 of the so called top four, like they have been doing to us on a regular basis.

We can beat Man Utd, it's down to Rafa to install that belief in the players, as well as installing the belief in the players that Rafa has a system to beat them.
