Guest Snorky Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Two yellows in a minute, one for a tackle and then a second for dissent a few seconds afterwards. He was the skipper as well, and all on his birthday.
passater Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Ref keen to even it up given very strange sending off for the US 10 mins earlier...
Ethan Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 He should get a lifetime ban from International footy for that. FIFA do your job!! Do bans carry into the Olympics?
Nebraska Red Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 dirty, disgusting player heaven knows what the ref was up to in that game. he was throwing out cards for fun, in a friendly!! Mascherano was unlucky to get sent off, but the earlier card to Mastroeni was a freaking joke. a decent game of footy though in which the USA team showed a huge improvement on their last 2 games. almost 80,000 at the game, a great atmosphere despite the horrible heat and the torrential rain.

Ethan Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 They've got World Cup qualifiers before they kick in. This was a very serious sending off though and FIFA need to clamp down on this sort of thing. Lifetime International ban would be the proper response and a warning to others.
Guest Doakes Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I didn't see any dissent. he was shown a yellow and then a red immediately after his challenge on donovan so presumably he was shown a yellow earlier in the game that went unnoticed by the broadcasters.
New York Red Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 (edited) It must ahve been horrible there today. My girls team played in it this afternoon and it was boiling. Giants Stadium had to have been a nightmare. Edited June 9, 2008 by New York Red
Rory Fitzgerald Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 He shouldnt be allowed play in the Olympics with that kind of behaviour
budgie Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Two yellows in a minute, one for a tackle and then a second for dissent a few seconds afterwards. He was the skipper as well, and all on his birthday. No it wasn't. He was booked either late in the first half or early in the 2nd and then booked again around 80 odd minutes. Both bookings were for tackles. I watched the game. The ref was an idiot.

SkippyjonJones Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Was it anything to do with the 'current climate'?Yeah – the current climate here is hot and that turned the ref into a miserable pedantic twot who wanted to make a name for himself.

Looked like he booked the wrong player when I sent off the US player. The ref was shocking. The only person on the field was Julio Cruz. He was terrible. Should of had a hat-trick. Don't see why he is at Inter.
budgie Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 We are both wrong, he got booked for the tackle then for pushing Adu as he came in to have a word. Fair enough. Not how I had remembered it. I'm blaming my jet lag. What's your excuse?

CaptainXabi Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Probably because he scored 13 goals in 22 starts and 28 matches overall in the league for them this season. He's still bobbins in any match that cannot be played at walking pace
budgie Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 He's still bobbins in any match that cannot be played at walking pace Ya I didn't know his stats (thanks Kaizer ) but he always looks so slow to me. He was absolute crap last night.
Guest Snorky Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Fair enough. Not how I had remembered it. I'm blaming my jet lag. What's your excuse? I'm blaming the commontator on Setanta Sports who said the second yellow must have been for dissent. It was only today on Setanta Sports News were they cleared it up and showed Mascherano and Adu pushing each other.

Was the Ref Steve Bennett ?? Did Mascher ask him the time or something similarly disrepsectful ????
