Surely there's no doubt he's the best player on the planet.

The way the ball sticks to his feet is astounding. So quick and decisive.

Unlike C.Ronaldo, he doesn't try to be too smart with the ball and show off. Just gets the ball and goes at defenders.

Brilliant player.

I said it at the beginning of the season that this will be the year he comes to the top of the pile and becomes the best in the world, with the demise of Ronaldinho and Henry, he's really stepped it up.

He's not shy of putting in some hard graft either. A Rafa player if there ever was one ;)

there was a moment last night when he went past scholes so quickly with the ball if you blinked you'd miss it. scholes might as well not been there.

I just couldn't get over how quick he was with the ball and the way he danced around United defenders. They are top class defenders and looked completely bamboozled at times.

Put a world class striker up front with him (think Barca's world class strikers have had their day by the looks of things) and he'll be absolutely unstoppable.

Is there an end product though ? He's the most skilful player I've seen but he didn't actually create much last night did he, Ronaldo had a better chance than Messi did and created better chances for others. He is only 20 though granted.

Imagine signing him!!

He'd cost an absolute fortune and he knows Barca will now build their entire team around him.

All of his teammates were completely toothless in both legs of the semi's.

He must have beat at least one defender in 90% of the runs he went on last night.

I think he's astonishing.

The lowest of low centres of gravity!

I think Ronaldo could learn a lot from Messi just as Messi learned from Ronaldinho. I still think Ronaldo has the better end product.

Last night as soon as Ronaldo got the ball a defender kicked him. He is always looking to be kicked and they knew it so they did it early away from the danger area.

Our defenders seemed to be scared of Messi and backed off until he got into the danger area and they had no choice but to tackle. The defence was great but I have to admit to s***ting my pants a couple of times last night. ;)

In the end the defence did really well, but during the game Messi really panicked them!

Agree about Ronaldo. He's class but he should use his physique more. Don't like his theatrics when he gets fouled. If he did as Messi does and just get up and get on with it i think he'd terrify defenders even more.

The way he is now, it just invites sneaky defenders to have a go at him.

15 goals and 16 assists in 31 game this season isn't to bad!

At the moment Ronaldo plays in a better team than Messi. Put Ronaldo in Barca's team and Messi in the Mancs' (GOD FORBID!) and the latter would be the best attacking player in the game, easily killing all opponents.

Eto'o and the other stars at Barca just aren't thinking football at the same level as Messi is this season. The way Messi skipped past Scholes in a split second was out of this world. Ronaldo managed to look very grumpy and insulted last night when he wasn't awarded a free kick and therefore crossed his arms in dismay, looking like a spoilt little kid without his ice cream. Poor attitude.

No doubt Ronaldo is world class but he should take a look at how much more direct and effective Messi is. Having said that, Messi would probably have some difficulties playing against the more physical teams in the Prem.

Messi is used to having the schit kicked out of him- he gets up and gets his revenge by making defenders look t***ts, a la Torres.

That move from the short corner where he was round the defender like a willow the wisp was f*cking astonishing.

There are major worries about Messi's ability to stay fit cos of the treatment he had to help his growth.

Fingers crossed that he manages to overcome his problems as football would be poorer without him.

He seems like a decent lad too. Looks like some little metal fan.

Unbelievable footballer, ridiculously good.

Mesi is quite simply a joy to watch, he's the most skilful player in the game for me. he was let down by his team last night - Barca have a lot of issues around their squad, and no doubt it'll be all change in the summer.

Messi seems humble and hard working the way Torres is despite his fame, which makes me like him even more.

Potentially the best player since Maradona. For me the contrast between him and Ronaldo isn't about who makes the greater overall contribution to the team. Ronaldo is more effective at the moment but he plays in a better team). Its about how they carry themselves. Messi seems to have respect for the game, the people he plays against and his own skill. He plays for love. Ronaldo plays to be loved. His problem is that his mixture of child-like arrogance and lack of respect for anyone other than himself makes that impossible.

messi's brilliant, but there is a huge defensive responsibility on zambrotta in that system at the top level, and last night he came up well short.

deco should have come off at half time. iniesta's been brilliant in that role this season, if a little shot shy, but yet again he was played out of position. eto'o, deco and henry have no heart for it anymore, and bojan's not quite ready.

the season they won in europe there was very little concession to defence, now because they've lost something going forwartd they've become caught between two stools. toure, abidal and milito aren't quite bringing what they need to.
