I appreciate that you don't explain yourselves in your voting but culd someone who was at the game (Leo excluded as he explained his Torres selection) please explain why you voted for someone other than Gerrard. Opinions are like a******s I appreciate but hte man was f***ing head and shoulders above the rest of his team, best I've seen from him in ages. Do those no voting for him expect more from him or do you blank his performance from memory each week ?

He didn't make some of your top 3 !!!!!!!!!

I did not vote but if I did , it would have been for Hyypia. He was immense. Against a very strong , powerful , explosive striker he gave nothing away , his positioning was excellent and again in the air he was faultless. Then came the recovery challenge after Skrtel's mistake.

Class defender.

I was at the game and I would have said

Sami

Gerrard

Skrtel

Skrtel was in there due to it being his first Derby and he did exceptionally well aside from the Osman chance. Sami was pure class. Gerrard was immense, as you said, but purely based on that tackle to prevent Yakubu making it 1-1 I have to say Sami gets it. I think Skrtel settled better alongside Sami too.

I'd have given it to that kid who threw the ball in the opposite direction from Howard. Twice. Then when the steward had a go he showed no remorse.

I'd have gone Skrtel / Gerrard / Hyppia

Gerrard was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch yesterday.

He did his own job and had to cover for the utterly ineffectual Alonso and Lucas.

even barry horne admitted it on city!

No way would I have voted for Stevie ahead of either Skrtel or Kuyt

You see I can't for the life of me see how Kuyt had better game than Sami or Torres. He played well, by his standards, but still gave the ball away cheaply and had a really dodgy spell at the end of the first half. To compare his performance to Gerrard's who bestrode the game like a colossus seems like madness to me. Are people voting MOTM by comparing a players relative performace to his usual performance ? If that is the case I can understand the fluctuation but if anyone actually thinks that anyone was better in his job than Gerrard was yesterday I struggle to comprehend it.

...and motm votes have got nothing to do with relative performance...

it's an absolute measure of who was the best player on the pitch. nobody came within a mile of gerrard yesterday.

Which is precisely why I started this thread, total and utter disbelief at the voting.

Without the benefit of watching the game dispassionately, I would certainly not have picked Stevie in my Top 2. Happy to admit I might change my mind completely if i was to see the whole game again, but then again I might not...

I voted for Gerrard.

He ran his b******s off, pressed, won tackles, cover for Leiva / Alosno at times, hit the post, had another cracking shot and lead by example.

Thought he was immense as someone said.

i thought gerrard sat too deep for the best part of the game and ended up leaving the front three unnecessarily isolated. he did exactly the same to rooney mid week so im not surprised. plus im not impressed with him throwing fits because a pass doesnt end up exactly where he wants it. its a game, ppl f*** up but doing s*** like that makes him look like a complete c**k. thank f*** we have carra and he's only the captain on paper

Try watching the game then comment.

I just thought Sami and Skrtel were brilliant yesterday. They completely nullifed everything they came in their direction. Every ball was hacked/tackled/headed away with comfort and they limited Everton to two shots all game - both of which were never going in.

Gerrard was excellent as well yesterday though.

Gerrard had a very good game, but he gave the ball away on too many occasions for me to give him a top three vote.

yet you gave the MOTM to Kuyt

Did you see some of his passes though? Unbelievable as Andy Gray would say.

Yes, as I said, he had a very good game. But some of the passes was too Hollywood. If they'd connected, certain goal - so I'm not advocating him to stop that kind of passes. But, since they didn't reach the intended receiver, I've placed him just outside my top three.

And I really think Kuyt outshone him yesterday, together with Sami and Skrtel.

Yes thank f*** we have Carra to scream his b******s off at everyone around him anytime we conceed a goal. I think Jerzy still wakes up with night sweats thinking about Jamie shouting at him.Dont understand why the huge debate really. The team, first half were f***ing brilliant. Sami and Skrtel were brilliant, Torres took his goal superbly, Kuyt worked his b******s off, Gerrard was f***ing brilliant , Riise was decent and looked better than he has done for a while.

We beat the blues**** ffs, enjoy it people
