From today's Fiver letters:

Manchester United have been erecting their Munich Tribute this week - a huge display above the Megastore, featuring a picture of the last line-up of the Busby Babes and the lyrics of the popular classic Manchester United Calypso song. Unfortunately, they were so busy getting the AIG logo to look nice, they got the words of the song wrong, missing out the word 'Busby'. They spent today hurriedly peeling it off the windows after many fans pointed out their mistake - Moose

Is that our Moose?

shocking that AIG had to have a hand in it... even more shocking that they got the words wrong

Something like that must have been signed off by people in their marketing department!!

"Manchester United run by fans for fans"

(Yes, I know people in glass houses and all that  )

I guess that depends on the exact nature of the contract between United and AIG. There's probably a small-print which dictates that the AIG logo must be incorporated into all banners that are on display at the stadium and that failure to do so could have repercussions, lawyers would be dragged in etc.

Corporate sponsorship is a complex area and you can bet your ace that marketing at AIG (who have paid the club millions to be linked with their "brand") will fight tooth and nail to ensure that AIG keeps as high a profile as possible, throughout such a significant period of United's history. Which is a depressing sign of the times but there you go.

At the end of the day, the club have to choose their battles. I think it's a good thing that they managed to negotiate a match-day strip, that will have all advertising removed. I also think it's great that this is as a result of an idea that percolated all the way up from the fans.

I have no intention of defending the Glazers but I think it's fair to say that this whole thing is being handled fairly sensitively and with the best of intentions.

it's city's difficult situation. they're the ones going to look like c**** if they act like c****

Very true, but which would you rather have; a respectful memorial event or the moral high ground?

Always an excuse for the organization that personifies scum and filth

Man United win each way.

Either the City of Manchester win and how wonderful and respectful they are, or those City thugs ruin a great event and bring shame on the City.

no i meant a big f*** off megastore shop at your new ground.

what constitues hillsborough memorabilia?..if that display at Old Trafford is considered memorabilia?

Have you kept your wristband, badge, "the truth" poster, have you printed Justice 96 on the back of your liverpool top?

Fair enough its part of the campaign to bring justice to those who died...rightly so....and if it makes money for that campaign then thats good also....keeps it in the eye of the public too which again is the right thing to do.

As for what is for sale/put on display etc on the 50th anniversary of that tragedy we'll just have to wait and see i guess.

I only hope its as fitting a tribute to those who died as it should be, Ive no doubt it will be but will all the money made at that time still go to the families of those who died that day? I hope so.

It's going to happen sooner rather than later now that Liverpool FC have become a feeder club for baseball and hockey franchises.

"People are worried that I might take money away from the Texas Rangers to go to Liverpool," Hicks said.

"But it is just the reverse. Liverpool is going to throw off lots of extra money which, if I choose to, I can use for the Rangers or the Dallas Stars ice hockey team."

Yeah, looking to secure the future welfare of your club is far worse than disrespecting former players who lost their lives

Great point

how was it disrespecting former players that lost lives though?...ok the AIG logo shouldnt have been there and they made a mistake and left out busby's name...he wasnt a former player and didnt lose his life.

or are you talking about something completely different now?

OM - tbf, there is a touch of 'apart from that, wehat have the Romans...'etc in that post. Munich is the single most significant event in the modern era of Manchester United for so many reasons - nothing should be wrong with any presentationn associated with it by the club.
