Simply, and using this evening as an example, as a Liverpool fan is it ever acceptable to bet against the team? My personal view is that it is unacceptable.

Certainly acceptable. It's a matter of weighing up the odds and comparing them to the prices offered.

 

If we're odds-on to win tonight then I reckon it's good value to bet against us.

I bet with my head not my heart and it's a useful insurance against Liverpool losing.

4/1 for any team at home is decent value, especially a team that has picked up in form.

I agree with this except that I'd only bet against Liverpool when it's not part of a big acca. I never bet on Liverpool in a big acca either; the pain of losing a big payout because of us losing is a bit much for me to take. Kevin Lisbie's hat trick at the Valley a few years back cost me a shedload of cash

 

Might have a grab of that though at 4/1 - great price. Reminds me of when we lost to Benfica away the other year and for the home leg, Laddies were offering 5/1 for Benfica. £20 on brought home the bacon in style although the look I got from some loon after he heard me almost cheering when Miccoli scored with a couple of minutes left wasn't the nicest.
