JohnBonham Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Alonso and Agger will undergo scans today (foot injuries) according to Sky Sports News. Didn´t know that Agger was injured. Any info?
The_Adder Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Nice username, first I heard was on the Sky Sports banner last night...
Guest Kaizer Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Agger will be out for about-6-8 weeks with a foot injury according to reliable sources.
IgPig Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Might as well have come straight from the mouth of the doctor.
Guest Kaizer Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 (edited) What reliable sources? A poster I know is in the know. Edited September 19, 2007 by Kaizer
Red2Core Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Tomorrows times backs it up Alonso out long term too An arduous trip to Portugal may transpire to have carried an even greater cost for Liverpool after it emerged last night that Daniel Agger and Xabi Alonso could face lengthy layoffs with foot injuries. Both players missed their team’s unconvincing 1-1 draw away to FC Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday and, as their return flight touched down on Merseyside yesterday afternoon, they were walking in discomfort. The two players went immediately to Liverpool’s training ground to have scans amid fears that they had suffered fractures, whether of the dreaded metatarsal or of another bone in their foot. The result of those scans should be known this morning, with Rafael Benítez, the manager, concerned that either player could be out for a number of weeks. Agger, the Denmark defender, initially injured his foot in the goalless draw with Portsmouth on Saturday and compounded the problem while training at the Estádio do Dragão on Tuesday evening. Alonso, the Spain midfield player, was injured in the same training session and returned to Merseyside with his left foot in a protective cast. If any squad should have the strength to cope with such setbacks, it is Liverpool’s, particularly in midfield, where BenÍtez has Lucas Leiva, the young Brazilian, to bring into his plans, as well as Steven Gerrard, Javier Mascherano and Mohamed Sissoko. But the picture is less rosy in central defence, where the injury to Agger could leave Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia as the only fit senior players. Benítez may be forced to call up one of last season’s FA Youth Cup-winning squad, such as Jack Hobbs, the reserve-team captain, who is likely to make his first-team debut in the Carling Cup third-round tie away to Reading on Tuesday. One other option would be to use John Arne Riise as an emergency centre half. Then there is the problem caused by Jermaine Pennant’s sending-off against Porto, with the winger suspended for the next Champions League match, at home to Marseilles on October 3. Benítez did not censure Pennant publicly, but he is known to have been dismayed by the player’s recklessness in diving into a late challenge on Fucile, the Porto defender, having been booked for a similar foul on Ricardo Quaresma in the first half. Pennant suggested that he had been hard done by, a verdict that was not shared by his manager or his teammates. He pointed out that most players are sent off at some point in their careers, “so please give me a little bit of leeway”. It was not a performance that was likely to do him too many favours in the eyes of Benítez or, indeed, Steve McClaren, the England head coach, who regards David Beckham, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Aaron Lennon and David Bentley as stronger candidates to play on the right wing.

Guest oyvmong Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 According to Danish TV3, Agger has broken a bone in his foot and will be out 4-6 weeks...
Dominus Maximus Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Agger will be a bigger loss than Alonso. Agger is out for a month minimum, according to Danish TV. We still have Momo and Mascher. Hyppia showed us all how slow he is. This is seriously a huge problem. Why oh why didn't we sign a defender?
stressederic Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Arbeloa can play centreback as well can't he?

Because Rafa put all his eggs in one basket and dropped it before he got home to make Jose one real good omelette. We are more than able to cope without Agger, when Alonso dont play we usually always struggle. Arbeloa can play centreback as well can't he? Thats his original position. jfogarty Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Hyypia will do a good job for us so I don't know what the panic is about. Bar the first 10 minutes last night I thought he was solid and I don't expect any of our upcoming opponents putting us under that kind of pressure.

The Hyypia Concern is the three games in eight days scenario. That's about as Ludlumesque as it gets.

jfogarty Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 And if it's six? I'll refute my first post and panic
Cheesecake Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 (edited) if this bit is true "Agger, the Denmark defender, initially injured his foot in the goalless draw with Portsmouth on Saturday and compounded the problem while training at the Estádio do Dragão on Tuesday evening" then why was he named on the bench for the game? Surely this compounding of the problem would have been picked up by the coaches at the time and he wouldnt have made the bench? Edited September 19, 2007 by DPD1973

Dunno how many players we took out there, he might of just been named for the sake of it
Cam Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Now we'll miss Paletta! He heh. But Agger will be a huge miss. We are still short at centreback (as we are at right midfield and in goal). There's plenty of cover in central midfield but Hyypia, although fine for occasional games, is now a liability for a 6-week period. Arbeloa is an option. An even scarier thought that Rafa WILL be considering is... Riise.
_00_deathscar Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 This is a massive loss - we'll struggle (I don't mean defensively) with either one of them out, but both? This is a big ask...
JohnnyH Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 crouch at centre half The only player slower then Hyypia?
Beardsley Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Simple solution to this (now, why am I not a manager): Just bring it to the other teams, during the whole game and we don't need a defence
