Already nervous about the portsmouth match

This is such a massive game in our recent history. Victory would keep us top and give us the launch pad to win the next 2 easier games. The confidence that could ensue from truly believing we're mounting a challenge could be enourmous.

A draw/defeat and nagging doubts about ground hog seasons could creep into our pysche. Still, I think the force is with us and we'll do it, but what will our team, given the internationals and forthcoming CL game ?

Surely those not playing midweek will start, so let's pencil in Alonso, Pennant, Arbeloa, Carra, for starters, but who else ?

Torres, Kuyt(if he's on the bench for Holland again)

Win would be excellent, draw wouldn't be the end of the World. We have to avoid defeat though IMO. This is the sort of game champions win, I think we will. Portsmouth were terrible in that Asia thing, as were we, but we were still all over them.

Throw in the fact that Utd and Chelsea have to play each other and one will drop points then 9pts from the next 3 games would be massive plus a game in hand to boot.

As you say, Pompey is the hardest of those games. I wonder how Rafa's rotation policy will work given the internationals and the emphasis on freshness.

Reina - Fresh

Arbeloa - Fresh

Agger - Fairly Fresh (Denmark play Liechtenstein, hardly likely he'll get tested much)

Carra (If Fit) - Fresh

Finnan (If fit) - Fresh

Pennant - Fresh

Alonso - Fresh

Sissoko - Fresh

Babel - Young and Fit

Torres - Fairly Fresh

Kuyt - Fresh

Sorted.

I'm going home so when I come in tomorrow I want to see an analysis of;

- what players have played internationals

- minutes played

- air miles flown

- morale from victories/defeats

- if any ginger full backs have missed their flights

- and the general well being of Fernando Torres

Any Pompey players on international duty, nah forget I said that ;)

Has Mascherano been away with Argentina? If not, he would be a certainty after his performance v Derby you would think.

Been to Australia of all places I think so I'd be surprised if he plays

It will be a tough game, but we now have enough quality to get a result. A win at Pompey will certainly put a few more markers down.

Quite unbelievably, Masch has taken a long haul flight to Australia to play for Argentina in a friendly in Melbourne tomorrow night. He'll be too jet lagged to play on Saturday.

Every game is massive and another marker we can lay down, but yes these sort of away games are the ones we need to keep winning to maintain our run. Our home form should look after itself judging by recent years under Rafa.

We've got a decent record down there in the League recently.

Can't wait to proper football is back.

nervous?

defo, it's the thought of white socks with red shorts and shirt that makes me feel ill

I always picture Morientes wearing our kit with white socks.

it's our 5th game for crying out loud.

why should we be the ones getting nervous?

the pressure is on Portsmouth as they are at home to the league leaders.

i think the team has shown us enough in 6 meaningful games that they are able to cope with anything and can do whatever it takes to get a result.

i am confident that we will get back to the days of our opposition being terrified of the Liverpool side thay are about to face.

i think some of us on here are over analyzing things.

I'm nervous before any game, be it a Champions League Final or a pre-season friendly. I've always been like that and I guess I always will. I couldn't even enjoy the 6-0 against Derby County until the end 'cos it only takes a second to score a goal. So that means that Derby could have won 60-6 in the end.

We will win it by 2-1, last min goal by Momo and 10 Pool supporters get warded for temporary heart failure.

The Return of Real Football, just cant wait..a win at Pompeii will be awesome, the ball keeps rolling, the momentum builds...come on you Mighty Red Men!

I'm not worried, but excited - I can't wait. This current LFC side is developing the look of a unit that won't be fecked about.
