In the Soviet times Metallist Kharkov used to be the roughest team in the league. They literally ended the careers of many prominent players. Those who saw the USSR team in WC 1982 and 1986 may remember the wing back Vladimir Bessonov from Kiev. He had to become defender after the double leg fracture received from Metallist bonecrashers - before that he had been a promising striker .

Besides, the word Metallist means "workwr of a steel factory" but at the same time in Russian slang it means "a person listening to heavy metal music". Was the favorite club of all the Soviet rockers.
