Obviously every game is crucial, but in the next few weeks we have a run of games against sides we have to be looking to put away.

Derby County (H)

Portsmouth (A)

Birmingham City (H)

Wigan Athletic (A)

I think after these four games we will be in a much better position to judge whether we are progressing and might mount a serious Title challenge this season, or whether it is more of the same old Liverpool.

10 points from those 4 would give us 17 points from our first 7 games with no defeats - would be our best start for years wouldn't it??

Portsmouth away will not be easy at all

It's a game we should win. We need at least 25 wins from the 31 we should win, realistically we need 28, if we think we're winning the league. Don't care what United got there. Man for man we're better than them and we should beat them.

If we win at Portsmouth thats one place we have been and beaten a team the Mancs have lost to, will hopefully make old Ginsoak abit nervous

All 4 Games can be won but I'd imgine is Rafa is just taking it one game at a time as per usual....

Verry Much Looking forward to the next few games

It's already (almost) our best start in years - in 02/03 we got off to a flyer (31 points from the first 36 if I can recall correctly) and then arsed it up from there and ended up finishing fifth somehow...

Every season since Rafa's been here, we'e only amassed 10 points from the first 7 games (or something like that) each season. Can't recall how we started in 03/04, but it probably wasn't very well..

:D

agree with the original post - 10 points from those 4 and i'll be happy.. i've seen it said before (on here?) that after 10 games of the season we'll know for sure whether there's something stirring and there's a challenge on the way, i still feel that's the case..

It's the four fixtures after those games that I think will give us an idea of how well we will challenge for the title.

Barclays Premier League

Liverpool v Tottenham, 15:00

Saturday, 20 October 2007

Barclays Premier League

Everton v Liverpool, 12:45

Barclays Premier League

Liverpool v Arsenal, 16:00

and 8 - 9 points from those 4 would do ok. we need to be going along at somewhere above 2 points a game, probably 2.25 a game on average if we are to be serrious about winning the league

those three highlighted in bold may be why someone (pretty sure it was Knox!?) mentioned 'after 10 games' but yeah, i'd include what will be a difficult away trip to Blackburn in my sums so i've changed my mind - after 11 games we'll know if it's on..................... :)

pompey away is tough, not helped by the fact that it's an early after international week. we'll win it though, we've got the mothaf***in wherewithal this year.

screw that, I want 12 points from the next 4 games and 90 from the next 30 games. If we aint expecting to win, why should we expect the players to go out with a winning mentality. I know it won't happen (the 90 from 30) but I want to be disappointed when we only take a point, or lose not plan for it

Obviously its a different perspepctive looking forward to games rather than back on them ( :detective: ) but you would have to say that anything less than 10 from 12 is not Championship Form.

Doesn’t take much in the way of a few styles like performances to f*** it up.

Next four games could easily see us with 10-12 points (you'd have to think if any poinbts were to be dropped, then a draw at Portsmouth might be on the cards). But I'm really hoping we get 12 points over the next four games, as that should see us on top of the league.

Then we go into a very difficult four game period. I feel that what happens against Spurs, Everton, Arsenal and Blackburn will tell us a great deal for the campaign ahead. If we go to pot then we'll be playing catch up again, but if we get 9-10 points then we will stay in touch at the top (or possibly be top) with some tough fixtures under our belts.

One game at a time and all that though!

just a thought. last season we played all the tough games first, away to everyone. this time, we got most at home first. which do people prefer? Me, rather get the points in the bag, knowing that win somewhere tough effectively wins us the title

Take twelve then take ten and I'll be f***ing made up.

EDIT: Owen I did say we can have a look after ten. See where we are (not in context of anyone else but of ourselves) after ten.

Points in the bag, it'll breed confidence.
