Who's this Carta guy?

Posted (edited)

Reina -7: totally reliable presence in goal

Finnan - 9: outstanding example of composure and concentration (MOM)

Carra - 7: little to do

Agger - 5: looked very rocky early on but improved, the 4-0 loss to Ireland must have been on his mind perhaps

Arbeloa - 8: handled the shift in positions very well and was never found wanting

Babel - 6: contributed to the second goal well, good prospect but didn't impose himself much

Alonso -7: Provided good distribution overall. Cleaned up everything in front of the back four

Sissoko - 6: great goal, great run but still lots of unnecessary loose passing still

Pennant - 8: some outstanding running with the ball and terrific workrate

Torres - 8; Brilliantly dangerous at all times

Voronin - 9: hard to argue against one goal, one assist, and immense all round workrate.

-----

Riise - 4: managed to twice fail to clear the ball in his brief cameo and put us in dangerous positions :(

Reina 7

Finnan 7 another excellent performance

Carra 7 solid as always, hope it's not a broken rib

Sami 6

Arbeloa 5 a wreckless challenge and a well deserved yellow

Pennant 8 MOM our main source of attack; nice to see him take that free kick

Momo 7 great goal but found his form again immediately after + some sloppy passes

Xabi 7

Babel 7 this lad looks very promising and did well against a very physical side

Torres 8 took everything their defence dished out, another keeper and he'd have been on the scoresheet

Voronin 8 great goal; i maintain this lads going to be one of the best in the league by the end of the season

--------------

Agger 7 did well without a seasoned central defensive partner by his side

Riise 6

kuyt 5 came on too late to do anything

 One would think that they ran him ragged throughout the game. He played 20 minutes FFS!

Pennant, Momo, Torres, Voronin and Possible Finnan with 8's, the rest get 7's.

Thought Carra wasn't poor enough in possession today. Kept playing long balls.

Was a little concerned about the defence in general today. Seemed to be less organised than normal.

No idea why Voronin was getting slagged in the match thread. Thought he did very well, even without the goal, been impressed with him so far this season, much better than I expected.

Momo, Pennant, Arbeloa were the outstanding players for me today.

Could have won by more and for that reason wouldn't give Torres or Voronin more than 7.5 each, despite their excellent all-round performances, as they were probably most culpable.

Babel did ok without, as someone else said, really imposing himself. 6 for him.

Pennant is working really hard, did some good tracking back. 7.

Finnan my man of the match just for his quiet excellence. Can't remember anything really coming down his side.

7s for the rest of them.

At last! Someone else saw Riise as well as me. He came on for the few minutes at the end of the game and looked like an accident waiting to happen.

Reina - 7, not much to do, but what he did he did great.

Finnan- 6, steady in defense, contributed f*** all going forward even if he had all the space in th world.

Carra- 6, not really tested, too many long balls.

Hyypia- - , not enough time, unlucky.

Agger- 6, not his best day.

Arbeloa- 7, best in defense

Pennant- 6, created almost nothing considering all his time on the ball.

Alonso- 7, steady in midfield, did not put a foot wrong.

Sissoko- 8, scored his first goal, overall a positive contribution, even took players one more than I have ever seen.

Babel- 5, disappointing, anonymous, should have taken a lot more initiativs without the ball.

Voronin- 8, 1 assist and 1 goal, created chances, linked up play and worked hard.

Torres- 7, 1 assist for Voronin, linked well with Voronin, created chances for himself with his pace, but he should have scored.

Riise- -, no impact.

Kuyt- -, no impact.

Thought Pennant really looked the business. Upfront we got a real mixed bag,. Voro was at times very good and at times awful. We must must become more clinical

think we will. at the minute we're making the chances and the players are really still bedding in. torres is going to terrorise defences this season, he's top class.

Thought we were woeful for the majority of the first half. Very few balls were played on the ground through midfield. Far too much lumping the ball up the pitch. Passing around the pitch was abysmal, giving the ball away constantly. Lots of players were too slow on the ball and caught napping. Fortunately the second half was an improvement.

Only players worth mentioning who overall had a good game were Momo, Finnan, Pennant, Voronin and Reina. Torres would have had a brilliant game if he'd been a bit more lucky with his finishing.

Arbeloa's ability to get in on the celebration is also amazing. Josemi you've met your match.

He even got in on one at Reading away last season.

Quelle surprise you tedious f***wit.

Pennant had a decent game, nothing more.

For me he is only half a player in the meaning that he only does half the job a winger/wide midfielder is supposed to do and for him being able to have a good game he needs to perform the half he actually does on an outstanding level to compensate for the half he does not do.

Pennant has played 55 official matches for us and he has scored 1 goal, more worrying is that he has had about 10 shots on goal in these matches all together.

Personally I cant think of one winger/wide midfielder in the whole league that carries so little of a goal threat and if there are any they play for some relegation struggling teams for a reason.

If someone can come up with some names please do, I certainly cant.

Apart from being involved in the build up to both our goals and creating a few other goal scoring opportunites?

Usualy when you have no clue about something its best to keep quiet and not draw attention to the fact.
