Don't remember a summer quite like this one.

Usually it's one or two clubs. And of course, Chelsea in recent years spending enough dosh for about 10 clubs. Mancs started it all off this summer spending over 50 mill. And then the press have been obsessing about us splashing the cash. But tbh, it's other clubs' spending thats been surprising!

Man City ain't half splashing the cash. Two defenders today for a combined fee of about 10m, another midfielder for 8m to go with the millions they spent on Bianchi and Petrov. West Ham have spent 20+ mill already.

Spurs have spent s*** loads again just like last summer, on Kaboul, Bale, Boateng and Bent.

And it ain't just the amounts, its the lack of quality that goes with the amounts in some cases. Looks like Mido is going to be sold for £6m which is laughable, as is £5.5m for Kieren Richardson or whatever it was. £6m for Alan Smith seems a tad mad, Kamara for £6m, £5 mill for Chopra. Koumas for £5+ m, Beattie going for £4 mill apparently  Even average players these days are going for silly money.

Thaksin's in a rush to get rid of some traceable dosh. Probably.

not just the tv deal though is it? it's the clubs with the new owners who are really splashing the money. hammers, barcodes, us, city, villa. £8.5m for nigel reo-coker i find a bit nuts.

I have been keeping a tab of all the transfers for a fantasy league I run with my mates.

I reckon that the total spend for prem clubs has been £355,900,000 so far and thats with 12 undisclosed transfer fees.

Obviously that's an approximate figure based on reported fees.

I reckon sales have totalled £124,850,000

So, the ever popular net spend figure is £231,050,000.

Mido at his best is easy worth £6m, unfortunately his best has probably long gone and even when it was about only showed up now and again.

Some of the money for really average players is going to bite a few clubs on the a*** when they are trying to get rid in a year or two.

Was probably worth it before last season, but he had an absolute shocker of a season.

West Ham are trying to sign Gudjonnsen when they have Ashton coming back as well.

The wages are even more ridiculous than the fees. £75k a week for Scott Parker???

That seems to be the going rate at West Ham

If reports are true (or even close to) they are/will be paying Dyer, Bellamy, Parker, Ljunberg, Upson & Neill something in the region of £20m a year. When the players that have been there a while like Ferdinand, Zamora, Ashton et al start asking for the same their wage bill is going to be nuts.

The sobering thing is that it's just a merry go round of the never gonna be top class, problem kids, not lived up to early promise, injury stories and the over-rated. None of the sides are actualy getting any better, just replacing ok players with other ok players but on now massive new contracts.

For some reason I`m not sure if we are in the position to talk about silly prices being paid for certain players.

We have paid £11mill for an unproven kid from Holland and the Ajax fans thought it was Christmas Day and their Birthday all in once considering this gift.

And the time to disect that is in two seasons, much different to players that have been hovering around average all their 5-10 yr careers, who you know what they'll do

There's some silly money being spent on average players in that mid-table group of clubs.

Time will tell if any of the money has been well spent, but I think City are the only ones who could show a significant improvement this season. West Ham, regardless of the fact that everyone they buy injures themselves on their way home from signing a 5 year gazillion pound contract, don't look that good still on paper.

Of course, football is played on grass, so ermmm, doesn't matter really.

The Babel transfer is the only one that really sticks out with us though. Even though Torres cost 20 mill, he was never going to cost less was he.

Anyway, why are we not in a position to talk about the prices? You talk about your favourite players from any team but Liverpool non stop, so I guess we can talk about other players who cost too much money :D

The Babel transfer suggests £11m as the headline figure, but there was much talk of various clauses depedant on his performance. I'd be surprised if the initial fee isn't more like 7/8.

Another thing that has to be considered especially when it comes to our sales compared to the mancs is that they dont tell everybody in every possible way that they want to get rid of the player, trying to loan them out to every club out there, put them in the reserves etc.

Its no wonder we only do garage sales.

Aston villa spent a wad on ashley young in jan.

I think we still have one to go myself.

also, gives creditibity to Rafa's kid purchases. Can you imagine in 2 years time what sort of money we could get for the kids that don't make it?
