Nah, he was never a top prospect, he was always a "might make it". He's been playing in the reserves. By all accounts he's a good finisher but a bit clumsy.

He's only been here about 6 months though, still early days. I'd say the reserves will be a lot better next year, a few of the lads will have had first team experience and a few new faces will mean more competition too.

Each time I've seen him (admittedly only on the reserves' highlights), he has looked simply the worst player on the pitch. I rarely say things this bluntly, but there hasn't been a single positive from him from what I've seen.

I saw him play for Holland U19s against England U19s. Played ok as a lone striker but nothing special. Managed to get through one on one, get past the keeper, and then miss from a yard.

Isn't he the one that everyone in Holland thought was s****, and couldn't believe we'd signed him? If all we needed was a token number 9, couldn't we have pulled a random kid off the street in Liverpool?

Pretty much, my Dutch mate who supports Ajax/Liverpool compared the signing to Real Madrid signing the likes of Ramon Calliste from us

I thought he was just considered poor because he didn't have a lot of technical ability - but his scoring record was always very good (at the level he's playing at).

I remember reading when we signed him, that we only picked him up for the reserves and didnt really have hope of him making the 1st team.

you have to wonder, why bother? ;)

If I remember right, a staff member from Ajax said they were surprised the deal went through because they didn't know if Brouwer was good enough to make the breakthrough.

I put it down to sour grapes at the time, but the reports I've read on him are anything but inspiring.

not s****, just that they were unsure of why we signed him because he wasn't assured of breaking through there. He's a dutch u-19 international with a great goalscoring record (he scored 28 for Ajax's youth team last year)
