Just looking at the new Forbes rich list Both Hicks and Gillett don't even make Billionaire status. Its made me wonder how they compare to Randy Lerner, the new Newcastle owner Mike Ashley or Eggert Magnusson. These guys could outspend us this summer if that list is anything to go by. Thoughts

You transfer fund fretters are like Sunday drivers; you pop up in the summer from God only knows where and potter around, getting in the way and irritating everyone.

Apart from Abramovic and Chelsea which is a total one off situation (and one I wouldn't want to see here), clubs aren't run by individual owners just getting money out of their wallet and giving it to the manager. The need to have a certain level of financial clout obviously, but Gillett and Hicks as a combined force obviously have.

There's just so much more to it than who's got the most money - when our new stadium is built (with the new owners funding) with our fan base and proper 21st century management we'll be able to run as one of the wealthiest clubs in the world in our own right.

Stop being such a simpleton. If you ran the club you'd have swapped Gerrard for some magic beans by now.

More like sunday drivers in 4x4's that have blacked out windows

Someday there will actually be a player called "Magic Beans" and everyone will be fighting over him.

Seriously though, save the abramovich scenario, it'll be a long time before anyone overtakes the top four. Oddly enough the permanently broke blueshyte did though.

it's not just about what these guys are worth that matters. Im not sure the others , who might be in the rich list were even interested in sports before hand... but id guess they didnt own any teams.. they are simply here because of the money that is about to wash over the premiership.. it will get silly and that is why they are here. they wont be striving for success whereas the Hicks and Gillet union is made up of 2 men who made their money from sports. They are passionate about it and even though Im sure they are also here to make money, they are also here to be successful and that is why I am glad they are in charge and not any of the other people who bid for us. Having said that, if they don't cough up a lot of cash this summer, or build us a stadium that holds over 70k seats then I might just change my opinion on them... it is early days but I think things look good so far.

we will see how things develop, Rafa will spot a lack of commitment to winning faster than anyone and will be out the door the second he spots it.

Do you mean on a one-off basis or in the long term?

Everton broke into the "top four" and Spurs were within a hairs breadth of doing so a year ago.

With talk of eliminating the fourth Champions League spot, things could get very hairy indeed for both the a*** (who have budgeted CL football every season to pay for their new stadium) or us (who require it for the same reason).

Great team ethic, relative stablility, no stars, remarkably solid and we were a bit all over the place that season. The first four are what loads of money tends not to bring to a mid-table side.

The new riches of clubs such as Villa, West Ham etc. is good news as far as I'm concerned. Any players we ship out will be of interest to them, and we might even get a reasonble fee for them. As far as them catching the established top four, there is much work to be done, but over a few years it might be possible. The main issue will not be money available but the ability to attract the necessary calibre of player to break into the top four on a sustained basis. I don't think it will happen just yet, but the pack just behind the top four will be bigger, richer, and more able to do their own damage in the league on any given day.

stop being a prick, its a simple question on the forum. Our owners have had a out lay larger then the ones above mentioned have, plus with a new stadium and with speculation varying on the amount we have to spend its made me wonder how much we will be spending this summer, and the other owners may be spending heavily too making the top six more competitive next season.

From where I see it, it's not really relevent what each guy is worth. More important is what their aims are and how they are to achieve them. From what I've seen, they are all investors, not benefactors. They're not looking for an annual return in profit, more, much as you would a house, investing in improving the club's position, and exploiting the growth in earnings in the game to end up with an asset worth more than was paid for it and into it, not to mention a dynamic business to be involved in.

From that point of view, everything invested into the clubs will have to be calculated against return, ie can we get into Europe, the top four, win the league, and what are the benefits, how much more will we be worth (example Chelsea are perhaps worth 5 times what RA paid for them, and potentially a lot more than he's actualy put into them, a lot of the spending has been from borrowed cash, underwritten by him). From there you could say that there's maybe more immediate growth in income possible in the other clubs than ourselves because of where they currently are, but that's equally arguable in the reverse, as you'd have to question if they could ever achieve our success, or our national or global fanbase.

You'd also have to factor in how much is already available for transfers from the clubs own resources, and how much would have to be topped up from the investment fund. Again I'd say we're well ahead, especially after reaching the CL final, and with good players available for sale. Let's face it, if they could borrow enough and were stupid enough, Everton could outspend anyone, even Chelsea in the market over a summer, but will they?

damn it, I knew we shoud have went with the D.I.C. bid. Were stuffed now.

As Rafa says

I doesn't matter how many legs a table has, as long as the couch is nowhere near the lampstand, These other clubs could probably outspend us. But, they don't have Rafa, they dont have the drawing power, they dont have the team we have now about to go up an level.

I doubt very much that newcastle are going to be a top 4 side even with 100 million spend in the off season.
