Caught way forward leaving space in behind. Finally got back and slight deflection off him on the strike.

i've said it before, alves would not be a good player for us i don't think. far too lightweight and he's deffo no right back.

From the last couple of times I've seen him I tend to agree. He's great going forward but he's not the strongest defensively. Way too easy to go past him for opposing players at times. He might work as a winger but I'd be nervous with him at right back in a 4-4-2.

I personally don't think he's not solid enough defensively or clinical in an attacking sense in terms of end product on the right. Can't see him being that much of an improvement on Pennant.

 

I'd rather Rafa went for someone like Simao, Quaresma or Ribery who can all play on both flanks.

He's absolutely not a right back. I'd still love to sign him, and he could play right midfield (or very occasionally right back against a rubbish team who only defend).

 

He's a great dribbler and passer, but he can't defend, and generally doesn't bother.
