Who do we play in the final?

This has to be the hardest decision of the season. Alonso was dropped against Chelsea, and Momo would go buckwild on the Italians. IMO this is the match you play Momo but he's not on form. What does Rafa do? Gerrard has to be in the middle in the biggest game of the season but is Pennant good enough to start? He had a good game against Chelsea but it normally takes him a while to get into it. How do we fit Stevie, Maschy, Alonsy and Sissoky?! Kuyt and Crouch can't be dropped and we all know deep down Harry will start on the left :P

with all fit...then right now, i reckon Rafa will go with........

-------------------reina------------------

finnan-----carra-------agger------riise

-gerrard--alonso--masch------zenden

------------kuyt---crouch---------------

possiblty, riise left mid and arbeola at left bk..

Reckon rafa will wanna keep us solid in the midfield, ac milan are excellent attacking down our right hand side, so i think gerrard will start there......dont think this is the type of game for pennant to start.

I'd like us to at least try:

-------------------reina------------------

finnan-----carra-------agger------riise

---------------------Mascherano-------

Pennant---gerrard--alonso--Sissoko---- Kewell

-----------------Kuyt----------Crouch---------------------------

Think we'd kill em in midfield and win 2-0 with goals from Crouch, Gerrard and Fowler.

I'd like us to try 13 players too, but I'm not sure the ref will be so keen on the idea.

Still think it's worth a try. You shouldn't be so negative. 15 players would have been pushing it, that's why I limited it to 13.

I agree. Kewell has by no means got a guaranteed place in the line up. Great to have him back but one reserve team game does not mean he is completely match fit and the better option for the final.

If he plays at the weekend and has a blinder then maybe that will change.

-------------Reina

Finnan---Carra---Agger---Riise

Pennant---Gerrard---Masch---Zenden/Kewell

----------Crouch---Kuyt

Basically same team that started vs Chelsea at Anfield, but if Kewell shows he's back over the next couple of games, get him in for Bolo.

Gerrard and Mascherano dominated Chelsea in the midfield, they only started getting any possession when Gerrard moved outwide and Alonso tried to fill in in the center. Alonso isn't playing well lately, neither is Sissoko, Gerrard and Mascherano are both playing very well. Gerrard excelled in the center on Tuesday night. Pennant had a very good game aswell. Unless something drastic happens over the next couple of games, the same team as Tuesday night would do me just fine.

I don't think it's realistic to play Pennant and Kewell. Milan would dominate us in midfield too much.

If Kewell hits any kind of form and manages to stay fit for 3 weeks, I could see him starting on the left, with Gerrard on the right. Somewhat unfair on Pennant, but with Kaka often attacking down Milan's left, Gerrard could to a better job helping contain him.

Kewell's only had, what, 20-25 minutes of a reserve game so far? Both he and Momo will have to show they're on form and match fit to even get a sniff of the bench.

One thing I wouldn't do is push Gerrard out wide just to accomodate Alonso or Momo. We will need a bona fide 'wide man' out there who can stretch their defence. I actually think Pennant would be a great. He's gained so much more confidence in the last few matches and you can see it in his play.

surely Sissoko will be used against the Italians? this is exactly the match he'd strive in

The thing standing in his way is Mascherano, who gets around the pitch almost as much as Sissoko, is better at reading the game, is just as crunching in the tackle, and perhaps most importantly, passes to one of his team mates more often than not, something that unfortunately can't be said about Sissoko in the last couple of months.

I hope Sissoko still has a big future with us, but given current form, it would be a shocker to have him play ahead of any of our other central midfielders.

Pennant was fine at containing Chelsea on Tuesday. He didn't s*** out of anything.

Playing Gerrard on the right would be a waste for me. He absolutely dominated in the center on Tuesday. He can still cover Kaka from the center, Pennant can give Finnan cover like he did on Tuesday, and Finnan's one of the best right backs in the world.
