Man Utd vs Liverpool

Ok, the Glams scared the s*** out of me last night because that is them playing at their very best (Roma were s**** but lets put that to the side for a second).

If that were us last night, what would Rafa have done to couteract the threat of Ronaldo and Rooney running wild and piercing the midfield like that?

Roma have some good players, De Rossi is no mug in midfield, but was their defence that ultimately let them down and where ours wouldn't have?

Put yourselves in Rafa's mind for a second and pretend it was us against the Mancs last night at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is the main threat. Get momo to man mark Ronaldo and pack the midfield with five to disrupt their passing. the only way to stop ronaldo is to stop him from getting the ball. He is impossible to contain when he runs at full speed with the ball.

f***'s sake, you double-up on them when their wide men have the ball and stifle the supply into the forwards. it's not difficult. roma played a stupidly open formation and tried to go toe-to-toe with united in a style of football they're not used to and got deservedly raped for it.

no way would we give ronaldo, rooney and smith the sort of space they enjoyed last night - never mind giving carrick the freedom of the park to advance into.

good gods why would you allocate momo to man-mark the prancing little sh*t?

Roma defended very badly, they also had no protection out wide giving Utds full backs and wide players far too much time on the ball. As soon as they went 2 and then 3 behind they gave up so the scoreline blew up with pretty much everything they hit finding the corner.

Tactically you have to try and double up on Ronaldo i think Arbeloa at left back and Riise at left mid could be the go with Gerrard wide right in case Ronaldo switched wings.

We did dominate them only a few weeks ago when they were at full strength so we have nothing to fear, we just need to turn that domination into goals.

He would have asked his defenders to defend.

Tactical genius, our Rafa.

The only time United's wide men have seriously hurt is recently was Rafa's first game against them, losing 2-1. Ronaldo tore us apart that night. Since then, ok we pathetically crumbled at their place this season but their wide men (which is their biggest threat) have been nullified pretty well.

you go double-cover on the wide men with your wide midfielders and fullbacks and then when they try to get inside in midfield mascherano and xabi gobble them up.

I seem to remember us doing that to some decent players recently. Not entirely sure though. Some european randomers that no ones ever heard of by the name of Ronaldinho and Messi I think.

Utd went into that game looking very confident of steam rolling Roma. I don't think Slur Alex would have the same confidence against us. It was one of those games were one team can do nothing wrong and the other did everything in it's power to help them. With any combo of Momo, Mascherano, Gerarrd and Alonso available we would stifle the shet out of them in midfield. Also Riise and Arbeloa would be able to double up on Placcy.

Roma made the mistake of trying to push forward too quickly after the first goal went in to get on level terms as soon as possible. Tactically they should of sat back and weathered the storm a little. The Mancs went for it right from the off hoping to catch Roma sleeping.

Roma really had to consolidate, keep it at 1-0, keep it tight for a long as possible and gradually work your way back into the game. Roma never achieved that and all of a sudden they were 3-0 down in the first 20 mins. As brilliant as the Mancs were, Roma themselves played a big part in their own downfall.

roma are a poor team who performed well to beat lyon last time out. Dont forget the majority of that team is the same team that got spanked by boro last season.

Also lyon destroyed brehmen when we won it 3-0 away and 7-3 at home, did they win it? they were supposedly unstoppable too.

Roma's defending yesterday was 2nd rate at best, there is no way in a million years we would let them have that much space to run at without being closed down, also the way we bossed them at Anfield i think they will be worrying about us more so then we would of them. fair enough they beet us but how lucky were they.

lets not forget we had kaka and Crespo running riot against us til raffa got his mind going.

Anyway in Rafa i trust
