According to Graham Hunter on Irelands Newstalk Breakfast Show, we've been monitoring Torres and he's a target for us this summer.

He's a bit of a whopper but I thought I'd pass it on.

He totally ridiculed our chances of signing Eto last week, basically said that Eto would only be interested in going to two clubs and neither were Liverpool.

Forget him mate as he's probably off to the Mancs or Chel$ki etc (in my opinion of course)

I always find it interesting people don't think Torres scores many goals - if you look at his stats basically it's just not true, he scores plenty.

No I know he's not having a great season, but look at his record over a number of years and it's not far off one in every two games, which is genuinely top class in Spain, Italy or England...

Especially considering his age and team...and the pressure that has been on him to win them matches at such a young age.

Yes, he has been Athletico Madrid practically on his own until this season when they've brought in a few other stars. And I think he's got massive talent and potential but I'm still not sure he's right for the English game for the money we're talking.

What I'm saying is I don't think people should count him out because he doesn't score enough goals when the stats say he does. I'd say he has the pace, skill and striker's instincts to be a fantastic signing, but at £25m or whatever we're looking at he's too much of a risk because he could be too lightweight.

For example Morientes looked powerful in Spain, over here he was knocked off the ball too easily. That definitely raises big concerns for me over Torres, however it could be he's quick enough to get away with it when Moro wasn't.

I just feel a safer bet would be Eto'o if he does want out of Barca, his all-round game is unquestionable.

Outta the 3 strikers we're being linked to from Spain I think Eto'o will suit the PL the best. He doesn't have family ties in Spain like Villa so won't find it as big a wrench to leave and he has the pace and strength that the PL demands more so than either Villa or Torres. He is also a more direct player something which our current strikers lack.

I wouldn't be unhappy at any of them joining us tho!!

Given the supposed hints dropped by David Villa today, Hunter could be 'el raspar hacia el árbol incorrecto'.

Apologies to Fig etc, I know it's hardly idiomatic ;)

how can anyone say torres is too lightweight for the EPL???

he is stronger then 3 of our strikers (bellamy fowler and crouch) and he is stronger then villa, and morientes. if there is an aspect in his game i am not worried about its his strength and pace.

i would prefer etoo over him,but i would prefer him over villa, who is a great striker.

great if we need someone to miss penalties

we really are a picky bunch.

is there any striker out there who would be acceptable to even a majority of Liverpool fans?

No there really isnt. There are 3 requirements really.

1) The striker needs to hit the ground running and be tearing up the premiership from his first match to his last match.

2) He must not need time to adapt.

3) He must be a 20-25 goal striker.

Look at Horseface, hes a perfect example. Why cant we find someone like that, its our frigging God-given right to be given someone like that. We deserve it.
