Sheida V Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I've been so impressed with Pennant in the past few games. I thought he was excellent again against Sheffield Utd and his confidence is very high. I would like to see him start against Barcelona at Anfield because I think he would cause them a lot of problems. I had huge doubts about him earlier on but he's been excellent.

Agree completely, he's starting to win me over. Whether he's able to make a difference against a team like Barcelona remains to be seen, though.
KD07 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Steadily improving he is. More intelligent in his use of the ball and his ball retention is better. Showed how much more dangerous he can be when he makes the effort to get down to the byline to cross it in.
Sheida V Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 If he plays against Barcelona I guess he'd come up mainly against Zambrotta so it won't be easy. But I think his confidence is so high at the moment that it's worth having him involved.
Swagger Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Had a very good game yesterday, but lets not forget that the quality of the opposition was not exactly of the highest level, and that the game was practically over after 25 minutes. Still, if he can find some consistency, and use his skills to get past the fullback more often, then he'll definitely give a serious option on the right. Never deserved some of the stick he has received from some of our fans.
alias75 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Definately improving, but id still go with Gerrard wide right against Barcelona because i think we need Alonso and Sissoko in the middle. I think hes taken time to almost convince himself he belongs here but as he contributes more and more to the team he'll hopefully get better and better. Think Gonzalez is in the same boat the more he plays and contributes the more confident he'll become.
guernseygareth Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 deffo coming on - still frustrates me that he often receives the ball and appears to slow down and/or stop. Most effective when at pace against his marker surely - sometimes feels like he doesn't want to, that he thinks he's got enough at half speed. then again, could be wrong.
RafaShanks Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 (edited) Still think he's got more in his locker. Agree with that. Think he was superb again yesterday. He was even running against defenders and taking them on. His hesitancy which was confidence related has nearly gone. Edited February 25, 2007 by RafaShanks
Guest Ant Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 He is coming on leaps and bounds and does look a player
Nerik Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 He looked more determined yesterday which was good. Earlier in the season he seemed unsure of what to do when he had the ball. Now he is more confident. Made a great turn followed by one in the opposite direction to confuse the defender at one point in the 1st half.
anny road Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Has a very poor first touch. pennant??? he has a very good first touch
Guest Anders Honoré Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 He's proving himself a valuable squad option. Still think we need a better first choice player on the right though. Still, I think he has a future with us.
Knox_Harrington Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I wouldn't have him near Barcelona for a start. Zambrotta is too good; would boss the very life out of him in both halves. He has improved though and long may it continue.
Sheida V Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 Has a very poor first touch. I put down his touch and skill on the ball to confidence. When he's down on confidence he can be quite rubbish on both counts. But I've been surprised just how good he is when he has confidence to do what he is capable of.
Magic8Ball Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Agree with that. Think he was superb again yesterday. He was even running against defenders and taking them on. His hesitancy which was confidence related has nearly gone.agree with that, I think the reason he often stops when given the ball is he's trying too hard. he's trying to think " what would Rafa have me do" - when that becomes instinctive we'll see a much improved player and his confidence will do the rest all in all I've been less disappointed with him in recent times
lawrie Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 He may not beat his man as often as many on here would like but I think he's a very intelligent football player who can pick a pass and who rarely loses the ball. His tracking back has improved 100% and his first touch (IMO) is one of the best in the squad. In fact I seriously believe he deserves to be in the England squad ahead of Aaron Lennon.
oran Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 im also starting to think he can be a very very good player for us.works very hard, good pace and i think he is the best crosser in the league.he always crosses for a player, instead of crossing for a spot.
Silencio Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 He may not beat his man as often as many on here would like but I think he's a very intelligent football player who can pick a pass and who rarely loses the ball. Not a chance. He's a fantastic player in the making.
meepins Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Doesn't carry the ball forward enough because he can't or doesn't beat his man with skill or speed. Works hard and holds the ball well sums him up so far.
Hector McDougal Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 He has improved recently but I still think that he cuts infield too often rather than taking his man on the outside. He also has a short fuse and can be wound up by opposition far too easily.
Guest Bernie Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 He has improved recently but I still think that he cuts infield too often rather than taking his man on the outside. He also has a short fuse and can be wound up by opposition far too easily. I think this comes back to the fact that he is a bit lightwight physically and is often barged off the ball when he tries to go around defenders. Aaron Lennon is similarly small but he is that extra yard quicker and rarely has to go shoulder to shoulder with even the quickest fullbacks.
Maldini Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 He still needs to be more aggressive, he needs to take players on, hes still a bit too afraid of making mistakes. I think some of it is he's in awe of Gerrard, he always seems to want to pass to him even when it's not the right option. He's doing alright though, slowly but surely improving.
