FERGIE: EVEN KOP FANS WANT US TO WIN THE TITLE

By David McDonnell

SIR ALEX Ferguson last night claimed Chelsea have become so unpopular that even Liverpool fans now want their arch-rivals Manchester United to win the Premiership.

United and Liverpool's rivalry is among the most bitter in football, but Fergie believes Chelsea's ability to buy success, coupled with their pragmatic style of play and perceived arrogance has made them Public Enemy No.1.

And Fergie claimed Chelsea's popularity is at such an all-time low that the previously unthinkable has now happened - Liverpool fans rooting for United to snatch the title from Jose Mourinho's side.

"With Chelsea not endearing themselves to everyone in the game, it's strange that people, even Liverpool fans, are saying to me 'I hope you win the League', which is amazing," said Fergie.

"But I think that Liverpool supporters will always recognise what good football teams are. I think we're playing good football and I think that is getting its message across."

United became the team everyone loved to hate in the 1990s because of their domination of the Premiership and their re-emergence under Fergie as one of the best sides in Europe.

But Fergie believes Chelsea now occupy that position in the hearts and minds of football fans up and down the country, who are willing United to lift the title.

"We've always had our detractors but also our admirers," said Fergie.

"So I don't think it's ever been overloaded in one way.

"When we got all the success in the late 1990s I think, quite rightly, a lot of clubs were hoping we'd lose a week, simply because you don't want a monopoly.

"I watch a game on TV and I want the underdog to win, it doesn't matter what the game is. That's the way people are and it's quite right.

"But I think that they always recognised we played good football and anytime we won the League it was because of our style and the way we went about it."

As for speculation over Mourinho's future, Fergie added: "I had dinner with Jose in November and he seemed happy enough.''

Ferguson loves us. He's a closet Liverpool fan.

I just can't bring myself to hate him the way I used to...:(

I think that is where his bitterness really stems from....

He wanted to manage us along.

'To knock Liverpool off their f***ing perch'

Thats all i need thanks.

Ferguson is a w*****.

I think we will beat the chavs this weekend, i also think Arsenal could beat the mancs possibly opening back up the title race. As most say, I would prefer to see the chavs win the title this season, next season its ours.

I think that's possibly true of Mourinho.

Ferguson loves us, perch or not because we're still an old school club and he's an old school manager. I think he actually has a lot of respect for us and it's blatantly obvious every time he speaks about Liverpool Football Club...

Chelsea were never mentioned on this board or any other forum before the Summer of 2003. The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about - and that is happening to Utd, they have been relatively ignored lately, by all.

2003/04: Arsenal win league, Abromovich comes in

2004/05: Benitez and Mourinho comes in and scoop CL and Prem

2005/06: a*** in CL Final, Chelsea League, Liverpool FA Cup

Mourinho has taken up more back pages, more inches of reporting space, more talk time on chat shows in the past 3 months than Ferguson has had in the past 3 years.

Not to mention the fact that there are more anti-Chelsea posts than anti-Utd posts - we even have Leo mellowing out on the young Scot

So United are being ignored, their 'fame' is fading rapidly. Ferguson must be worried.

Load of old b*llocks.

Maybe that's because we're playing them this weekend?

????

You've taken me up wrong  , Chelsea are dominating back pages and forum boards leading to 'some' Liverpool supporters to back Utd for the title

They can all f*** off then. Any Liverpool fan who wants United to win anything is a c***.

Some Man Utd prick in work, reckons it will be bad for the game if Chelsea win it again because it's boring when one team wins it every year and they have only bought the league anyway. He didn't even spot the irony.

I would never want that shower of a******s to win anything

I would rather Chelsea won the league for the next 1,000 years in a row than for the Scum to win even the League Cup

classic bit of PR from the battle-hardened old get.

was my thinking but unfortunately i have heard the odd fan saying they hate Chelsea and would rather United win it than them but i've put them straight.. it wouldn't surprise me if Feguson's been out or at some lunch doo or other and some c***'s come up to him, claiming to be a Liverpool fan, and saying he hopes they win the league though.. there are, unfortunately, enough c**** about that would.. it's my belief that any true fan wouldn't be able to mutter those words though..
