Say we'll swap Warnock plus cash for Lucas Neill.

Sad to see Warnock go, if it happens. Don't think he's quite good enough, but I like how he gets stuck in.

Mind you, it is onl ythr Daily Star claiming it.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with our interest in Neill as IMO with the money we have coming in it'll be likely that Rafa will rekindle his interest in Alves or even look for another target at RB unless Rafa thinks Neill is the answer. I suppose he'll add decent cover there and elsewhere across the back 4 but would it only be a short term signing similar to Kromkamp?

As for left back we've got plenty of players who can play there including Insua who'll be joining in Jan so the selling of Warnock isn't out of the question.

rafa refused to sell warnock last time and will refuse again. aureola has proved he's no left back which leaves SW as no 2 LB, if you assume Agger's gonna be a 1st choice CB soon. it'd transfer a cover problem from right to left.

plus what's all this warnock+cash s***. a 30 yr old aussie with 6 months on his contract = 24? yr old English player +?

should be neill +cash

"aureola" hasn't proved he's no left back at all, he's not been great defensively so far but has added a hell of a lot from an attacking point of view. Give him a f***ing chance eh? He's barely played due to injury.

"plus whats all this warnock+cash s***"? Erm, gossip, like the post says?

Neill isn't 30 either (He's 28) and we need another right back.

Reds close in on teen star

Exclusive By Chris Bascombe,

Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL are close to snapping up Argentina starlet Emiliano Insua in a deal worth around £1m.

The 17-year-old left-back arrived on Merseyside today from legendary South American club Boca Juniors.

He'll be at Anfield in time to watch tonight's Champions League clash with PSV.

It's anticipated he'll initially sign on loan until the end of the season, with the deal agreed to make the move permanent next summer.

Insua is part of the exciting Argentine Under-20 side who are currently world champions at their level, and his arrival is part of an ongoing strategy by Rafa Benitez to recruit elite youngsters from across the world and provide a stable foundation for the future of the club.

Chief scouts Frank McParland and Eduardo Macia have been entrusted to scour the globe for potential stars of the future.

Insua comes into that category, having been spotted excelling for his country's youth team, and there are expected to be more recruits in the New Year.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona were tracking Insua, but Liverpool were the first to show an interest in the teenager, prompting him to reject recent moves from Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford.

There are those at Anfield who believe Insua could challenge for a first team spot before the end of this season, and will certainly be an option in time for the 2007-08 campaign.

It is customary in English-speaking countries to wear wedding rings on the left hand, but everywhere else in the world, they wear them on the right hand.

Hughes' recent insistence that he accepts Neill will leave in June but won't let him go in January "if it will weaken the squad" hints that he still wants a player exchange.

It'll happen but I hope we get money out of it. They're both of a similar quality so giving up one player for one with only 6 months on his contract is stoopid.
