Benitez Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Was talking with Kahnee about this after the game today. Seems he's doing very well this season. If he goes on to have a really good season, playing the majority of games, what do you reckon happens next season? On the one hand there will be the suggestion he'll want to play a lot again, and maybe that won't happen here. But the way I look at it is, Dudek is bound to go. And Carson is young enough to give it a go here. If he has a really good season, and has that experience behind him, whats to say he can't come back here and give Pepe a run for his money? There will be a fair few clubs more than happy to take him on, and that could be an easy choice for him, but I just think it'd be a real shame if he went. I really hope he comes back here, and from a fan point of view, I'm not really that arsed who is our number one long term - let the best man win as far as I'm concerned! Nice problem to have. I just hope Carson decides to give it a go, and that the club don't decide to cash in on him in the summer.
Barnesy_10 Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 (edited) Wonder if Maclaren will make his 2nd big risk and drop Robinson for Carson, he's the better keeper who at club level is surrounded by poorer players than Robinson is... If he gets a run for England and does a good job we could net a fortune for him, but I wouldn't want us to lose both Kirk and Carson in the same season. Though Dudek is excellent cover, in the long term Carson could be a great keeper for us if Reina leaves or gets injured long term (which obviously I pray doesn't happen) Edited November 4, 2006 by Barnesy_10
Kahnee Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Good to see the game had you gripped - they were still playing when this came up
Benitez Posted November 4, 2006 Author Posted November 4, 2006 Good to see the game had you gripped - they were still playing when this came up lol! I was thinking that, but I thought I'd say it was after, rather than make out we wheren't watching the game, but now you've let the cat out the bag

The problem with judging keepeer is most of the time it's because they have a s*** defense in front of them. At the higher level you need someone with goalkeeping ability and concentration. To me that means not just a good shotstopper but a sweeper, and someone that can command their box. The ability to maintain focus though is paramount.

Nebraska Red Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 from the MOTD bits, Carson looked really good against Citeh. if we can get some cash for Dudek, I see Carson coming back as #2 unless somebody makes us an offer we can't refuse.
Guest Sabre Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Loan him out again. Who would cover Reina?

Stevie H Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 He'll be our number two eventually then he'll be our number onetricky that. would involve him developing into a better 'keeper than reina in a hurry 'cos there's only about two years age difference between them isn't there?
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 tricky that. would involve him developing into a better 'keeper than reina in a hurry 'cos there's only about two years age difference between them isn't there? Not tricky
hideNseek Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Who would cover Reina? If Dudek is willing to stay then problem solved. If Dudek doesn't want too buy an oldish goalie whose coming to the end of his career. Would hate to see us lose Carson as at this moment in time, we've no idea whose going to end up the best between him and Reina as ther both so young and good.
Mike Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 tricky that. would involve him developing into a better 'keeper than reina in a hurry 'cos there's only about two years age difference between them isn't there?he's better than reina at the moment.
anny road Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 he's better than reina at the moment. as in he played well in the lqast couple of games? he has dropped some b******s himself this season
Ombudsam Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 always felt carson had a mistake in him last two seasons but he was young. feeling the same about reina now but he is young too and pulls out blinders
anny road Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 always felt carson had a mistake in him last two seasons but he was young. feeling the same about reina now but he is young too and pulls out blinders oh yes I aint saying reina is playing well....he has a propensity to panic which does us no favours at times
Benitez Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 all goalies have a mistake in em. I guess it's how they respond from it is one of the biggest issues. And after a shaky few games, Reina has battled back very well this season and is now looking more like the goalie he was last season. As I said in the post above, from a fan perspective, I'm not arsed about who becomes our number 1 long term, just don't want Carson to give up on Liverpool too soon. For me it'd be the easy thing to do to move on cos he sees Reina as too young a goalie to dislodge anytime soon! But next season if they both went head to head here, then maybe Carson has every chance. It'd just be a shame if we never see him here for a full season battling for the number 1 spot. It's actually nice to see a player of ours loaned out in the premiership, playing week in week out and getting his chance.
Kahnee Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Not tricky I wish my world was as straight forward and simple as yours
Guest Anders Honoré Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 And after a shaky few games, Reina has battled back very well this season and is now looking more like the goalie he was last season. Three games ago he was fumbling the ball repeatedly in the dying minutes of the game. It's gonna take a bit longer run of solid form before I trust Reina to be back to his form from last year.
IgPig Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I think at the moment with Carson, its the Kirkland thing over again. He's getting chances to make loads of saves because he's playing in a poor team where he gets a lot of work. Different kettle of fish playing for us. Looked very good in the highlights, but I don't see him challenging Reina in the near future.
Hector McDougal Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Carson was man of the match yesterday according the the sunday times report.
Guest scoffsred Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Carson was man of the match yesterday according the the sunday times report.scott has only gone to charlton for 1 season because dudek was stopping and both scott and benitez wanted him to get 1st team football. simple as according to his brother grant.
Mike Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 as in he played well in the lqast couple of games? he has dropped some b******s himself this season been better than him all season.
