anfield Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Didnt see that anyone else had started one so here it is Kuyt-9 brilliant, worked hard all game, held the ball up, created chances for others, and scored himself. I can't help feeling this is the striker we have been waiting for for a long time. One who will become a player for the record books. Crouch 8 both forwards did well and linked up well. Constantly a threat, got quieter as the game progressed took his goal very well from a half chance Garcia 8 When he's on fire, he's on fire. Was a constant threat down the left, put in some good crosses, scored a great goal, they just could not knock him off the ball at times. If only he was like this all the time....... Gerrard 7 linked up well with the forwards not a dominant performance but a good one. Sissoko 6 poor first half. got better in the second. Constantly being picked on by the refs seems to have affected him. He jumps into tackles with both arms raised as if expecting to be penalised, more often than not, does not win the ball but still disrupted Villa's play. In the second half, he started to actually run with the ball and pass......much better and showed what he is capable of alonso.7 nice workmanlike performance Hyppia 8 all over the place. Don't know how he does it despite being slow. Some great tackles and was constantly going foward. Set up Kuyts goal. Thought it bizarre that he was there to set it up to begin with Carra 7 did well and almost set up a goal with a cross. Constantly directing high pitched screams to disorient Villa forwards Risse 7 really linked up well with Garcia on the left Finnan 6 Did ok. Reina 7 Did well, one great save and some great punches. Had no chance with theit goal The first half hour, I couldn't help but notice that Crouch and Kuyt had to drop back in midfield as they weren't getting the ball. Neither of them are particularly quick so them getting the ball 40 yards from goal accomplished nothing. Garcia was our furthest player forward at that point. As soon as we started to get the ball to Kuyt and Crouch in the box they showed what they were capable off. Sissoko needs to actually hold onto the ball more and pass as he did in the second half.

Sion Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Completely agree anfield Reina got a 5 from sky ffs, they said he 'Looked suspect' They had Garcia as MOM with 9 'Tricky and Dangerous' and Kuyt only got a 7 Idiots.
Guest JimmyJames Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I thought Alonso was our best player. His passing was sharp today.
Bjarkinn Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I thought Alonso was our best player. His passing was sharp today. What game we're you watchin lad? Reina 6Finnan 6Carragher 6Hyypia 8Riise 7Gerrard 8Alonso 6Sissoko 7García 9Kuyt 8Crouch 8 Pennant 6Zenden 5Fowler 5
Mike Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 gerrard was comfortably our best player i thought.oh and alonsos' passing was not sharp.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Reina had no chance with the goal, made a good save & caught everything (admittedly little) that came at him, apart from one punch which ended up near the hw line. I'd go with Reina 6Finnan 7Carra 6Sami 7JAR 7Xabi 7Momo 7Gerrard 7LG 8Kuyt 8Crouch 8 Subs didn't have enough time We were very good, but not scintillating. A very competent, professional team performance
Bjarkinn Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 can anyone explain to me the word scintillating?
Stevie H Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 thought xabi ran the game personally. dictated the pace.
Sion Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 thought xabi ran the game personally. dictated the pace. Wouldn't go that far, he did alright.
IgPig Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I also thought Xabi was very good, few misplaced passes, and a strange Gerrard like surge into the box at one point. Kuyt's the man for me though. Was watching his movement. He never stands still - must be a nightmare to mark.
Chili Palmer Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 gerrard was comfortably our best player i thought.oh and alonsos' passing was not sharp. I thought he was no where near our best, still gave the ball away, his passing is still not as sharp as it should be, but fair play to the lad, his work rate was triple what it was at old trafford, he kept the shape which led to Xabi and Momo having a bit more space in the middle, a sound captains display and I get the feeling the blockbusting displays aren't that far away.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Xabi was calm & efficient, there seemed to be a lot more communication too. He seemed to dictate the team-play
fred milne Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Xabi was easily the best player out there. What game we're you watchin lad?Alonso 6Sissoko 7And you?
Guest Red & Green Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 (edited) gerrard was comfortably our best player i thought.oh and alonsos' passing was not sharp. Best player my a***. Way to many miss placed passes. He worked hard but the team carried him today. Fair play to Stevie Finnan having to play both right back and right wing. Gerrard kept drifting into the middle looking for the ball. He'd have been better off staying wide. He looked to be getting in Sissoko and Alonsos way. Thought Carra,Reina, Riise and Alonso looked in much better form today. Sami was great. Sissoko played well also. Thought the front 3 of Garcia, Kuyt and Crouch were very good. MOM between Garcia and Hyppia. Edited October 28, 2006 by Red & Green
CarraLegend Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I love Dirk. He gets a 15. Cant believe someone gave Alonso a 6, he was a lot better than that.
Bootle Buck Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I thought Alonso was our best player. His passing was sharp today. Xabi looks great when he has the time to spray the ball around. However, when closed down he gets caught on the ball a bit. Luckily today he wasn't too pressured. What's amazing is how the commentators never seem to notice an errant ball from Gerrard. I thought he gave the ball away cheaply today yet it never seems to get a mention.
Guest Red & Green Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Should have added to the previous thread.Player Ratings Reina - 7.5 - very good today. That save 2nd half was brilliant.Finnan - 7.5Hyppia -8.5Carragher 7 - would have been 8 but for getting caught out for the Villa goal.Riise - 7.5 worked hard all game and got a few great crosses in. Gerrard -6.5 - worked hard but still a bit sloppy in his play.Sissoko - 8 - tireless performance.Alsono 8 - played well today and covered a lot of ground also.Garcia 8.5 - full of tricks today. Took his goal well, and might have had a second. Crouch - 7.5 - took his goal well and showed some lovely touches.Kuyt 8 - Love him. He's a class player.

tomasjj Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Reina 7 - Looks like he is getting better now. More confident, and a great save from Sutton.Finnan 7Carra 7Sami 7Riise 6 - Lets them cross too easily from his side, also pulled out of challenges... got some good crosses in though.Momo 6 - Ran a lot, very sloppy passing!Xabi 8 - Good game. Playmaking.Gerrard 7 - Getting better now, wasted some balls, but more guts this time. A goal would do him good.Garcia 8 - Tireless performance, always willing to try and create, and good runs into the box.Crouch 6.5 - Good goal, if a bit flukey. Decent on the ground, but loses too many headers. Nice pass for Garcias goal.Kuyt 8 - Workmanlike, nice goal...intelligent interplay. Good game.
anny road Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 well i am gonn have to wtahc it again initial thoughts were that Xabi totally dictated the 1st half..sharp, incisive Gerrard played well too wierd that people are sying different about Alonso
