"we decided to let PSV make the game"

Forgive me for having higher expectations of my club, 5 times European champions Liverpool

Its not the result that bothers me its that we actually tell players to aim low........

How about, is it 5 new players, a new coach and everything else that brings. You have a problem with what?

good to see we have a healthy respect for our opponents.

It's a good point for us. Yes, we could have won the game; equally, we could have lost it (nice work Setvie Finnan). On paper, that's our hardest game donw & theirs is to come.

While I'm not estatic, I'm happy. A clean-sheet is a bonus too

Can people please take note of this post as it covers everything.

Sorry, but PSV are no mugs at home, and on the back of the week we've had with players obviously low on confidence, I would have taken a point before the game.

If we can win the next three, which we are well capable of, we could qualify with games to spare.

This is craap. Do you not think it might simply be to remind the team, and particularly the defence that they haven't kept a clean sheet in 11 games, so to try really really hard to do so? Also, the fact that we had the pace that was missing at Everton meant that in theory we could counter attack effectively, which we did for the first hour.

The teams that won European Cups under Bob and Joe Fagan used to pass the ball between them at the back (and back to Clem, Bruce) when they played away from home until the opposition and their fans went mad. Now and again they'd pick them off but as often as not we wouldn't conceded away from home.

You appear to be advocating that to try to achieve a clean sheet is the same as instilling fear in the team, which is quite clearly a load of old schoite. PSV were in the semis two years ago, they were the second seeds in our group, we have still to play them at home.

Yes, they weren't as strong a team as many of us thought they might be and with hindsight, we could have pressed on and won - but I'm happy enough with a point.

Aim low for the European Cup in your first season.

It's called consolidation anfield - we got comfortably beaten in the Derby and hadn't kept a clean sheet in a long time by last seasons performances. Confidence was low, so considering this was a dangerous away European tie against our nearest rivals in the group, I think the ends justifies the means.

I don't see the problem.....

it is hard to comprehend some of the almost arrogant comments from some of our fans.

"the likes of PSV" "we won the CL with a much poorer team"

like others have said, 0-0 was a decent result and one we would have been happy with before the game.

6 changes, an untried forward line, players just back from injury. all in a place where not many teams win and some (AC Milan for example) get battered.

so many fail to see the bigger picture and just live for the moment, the current game, and forget about the other 5 qualifiers and the next PL game.

all of the teams in the group drew, but WE have 3 home games left. 10 points, possibly less, should be enough to progress.

the 0-0 result gives the defence some much needed proof that they can play for 90 minutes without conceding a goal. going into Sunday' game, that is really important.

now I'm off to sort out the laundry. :D:D

I think he is English is not 100% shall we say given some of the phrases he uses. It probably translates better as 'playing counter attacking football' which is a valid tactic in an away game against a good team.

It's a long season and we can't go flat out to win every game and still be challenging come the end of the season. Very few media types seem to remember the likes of Gerrard, Crouch, Carra, Alonso, Garcia, Reina

have only had a few weeks break since June of last summer. We played most of last summer due to CL qualifiers and from what I rememeber we won the very last domestic game of the season after a battle and ET. (not to forget a trip to Japan in-between) What the feck is everybody expecting?

The media loved us when we beat the Chavs in the Charity Shield and we were going to challenge for the title. Three weeks or so later they are writing us off.

Can you give me an example?

I am absolutely happy......... .' = I am delighted

'We came here to get no goals against,' = We came here not to concede

'Before we started the match we came to the conclusion that we would let PSV make the game and we did quite well in that system. = The gaffer told us to play on the break

'So that is just a fine result.' = Its a good result

I am not saying he's English is bad, its just he uses phrases differently and I was trying to point out that what he 'probably' meant was that Rafa set up the team to play counter-attacking football with the two fast strikers

Yeah let's go out there and try to batter anyone we bloody play regardless of who they were, where we play and when we play.

You'll win loads of trophies doing that

Newcastle have

Is this the message being drummed into the players? "sneak a result" "came here not to concede" "let PSV make the game" Yes I know I need to be realistic but I could never see Manure, Chelsea or even a*** going into a game against PSV with that attitude, against Barca away maybe but NOT PSV......

The only thing that STINKS is the s**** you are spouting. Not only is it utter crapola, but it is full of more holes than the Reebok pitch, and the following says it all:

Yeah Chelsea with that amazing away record of theirs losing to Betis, Barca twice, Bayern, Porto, Anfield, they're great away.

Yeah Arsenal who won 1 away in the knockout stages and generally defended their way to the Final

Yeah Man Utd who went out in the group stages last season winning none of their 3 away games despite people saying they had the weakest group in the Competition.

Great case you've got there.

You sound so mad you could rip a dryer sheet in two. ;)

attitude is the key word here........I'm talking about the mentality going into the game nothing else

Nope, you're talking plums mate. Every team Benitez puts out goes out there wanting and possibly even expecting to win. However, when you've got as heavy a programme as we have coming up and half your team are still bedding in, it's equally as importnat not to lose as it is to win. Kev can say this was two points dropped from our point of view. PSV will be thinking it more than us if they have any sense.
