I get the feeling some folk aren't expecting too much from Robbie this season. I reckon we are going to see some vintage performances from him and that he will get an England call up. Wonder what odds you can get on that?

a call-up is unlikely, with Mclaren taking over the helm I reckon.

It's hard to say really. He's been sh*te for so long and who knows if his physique is up to being a regular anymore. He has shown some good form since joining and if he can maintain that level and recover the form and physique required of a top permiership player, he could be a real hit. OTOH, he might also be good in flashes and not play all that much because his body can't keep up.

I think he'll be alright. If I had to compare him to someone I think he'll offer as much as Pongo does.

Probably fair comment, but he's still got to prove he's in the shape to play 90mins regularly, so it's understandable he's being regarded as 4th striker, even though we only have three!

he offered so much more in the short time he was here last season.

if Robbie is fit (and he looks pretty trim!) and gets a full pre-season - then he'll carry on offering a whole lot more than Pongolle would.

It's him staying injury free that is always the worry.

I said on here several months ago Fowler will be a revelation this season if he can stay injury free. He proved towards the end of last season despite not being match fit that he still knows where the net is. Robbie joined us when we couldn't buy a goal after his arrival we couldn't seem to stop scoring. (not saying it was all down to him obviously) I have a sneaky feeling if Robbie gets a few early goals this season he could be hard to replace. He is a lot smarter in his play and will find ways to compensate for his lack of speed. I see Robbie being a very influential player on and off the field this season.

bellamy will be on pens

I think he could have a great year but I don't expect him to be banging them in. Think he'll play as more of a seven. That's why it's critical we get the alternative to Crouch who is more of a consistant goal threat. Crouch/Bellamy has a nice balance and ???/Fowler has to have one too.

fowler will score loads of goals this season. For me the onyl doubt about robbie for the coming season is whether or not he will he get the number 9 shirt back now that cisse has gone.

I can see what you're saying with the Crouch/Bellamy partnership. I like Crouch - I think he's half decent. But IMO he shouldn't be good enough to be first choice striker at our club.

I was disappointed when we bought him - but he's proved to me (and many others) that he's a decent player. I just feel that our weakness is still up front. Our defence and midfield looks are sound but up front there are still questions.......

I probably haven't explained this very well but I'm not retyping it!

Robbie's amazed me since he came back. He has changed his game like everyone said - he has so much awareness now and his ability to play a killer pass is excellent - but he must have stuck 7 chances out of about 10 straight in the back of the net. The only really god chances i remember him missing was (i think) against Villa at the Kop end and a great Lehman save at the same end which wasn't more than a half chance (and only that due to his great turn).

He offers a lot more than Flo and hopefully if he gets properly fit he can provide 10-15 goals this season.

Whilst it's an easy thing to say if you discount his early season drought Crouch's goal return was decent last season and he's already offered something at international level. He was excellent at Southampton when they could get behind teams. The only pacy option he's had around him thus far at Anfield is Djibril who tended to follow him around like a forlorn labrador. With pace around him in the final third I'd expect more goals from him. That's why I don't think he'll partner Fowler that much though.

I think that "first choice" really will be a rarity this season. Beyond Gerrard (who can play in a number of different roles), Alonso, Carragher and Reina it looks as though there will be no such thing. Crouch will be one option in four up front and he is an excellent option to have.

I can see Xabi being"rotated" a lot this season. People forget that us (hopefully) buying Alves or another winger means Stevie in the middle most of the time and i'd pefer him to be in there with Momo as a partnership personally.

No doubting Crouch is a good/decent player - but is he really good enough for us? I'm still not convinced - but Rafa is so that's the end of it. I'd love us to sign another striker though.

One thing is for sure - with the squad we're assembling now - we're gonna have one helluva bench next season!!!

people seem to think Robbie's 'just' a goalscorer. He can play deep, he has awareness which few have, he's willing to get wide, run from deep & try stuff few would have a go at.

5 goals in his last 6 starts suggests he's still got it.

As for 'being s**** for ages now', that's bulls***. His record at Leeds was far from bad & he suffered a lot of injuries recently

good, cos thats were we need. our first eleven is asd good as anyones in the league, but where we fell badly last year was that we had no real squad depth, we were a bit screwed if we got a few injuries

He'll do alright this season and he'll be important because he's a different kind of player to Crouch, Bellamy, Pongolle, Kewell and Garcia. I still think we need another forward though.
