Quite surprised by this but found this little snippet...

According to the latest issue of the Liverpool magazine, the following players have been released:

Robbie Foy

Ramon Calliste

Paul Willis

Paul Lancaster

Callum Woods

The magazine further states that Neil Mellor, Darren Potter, David Raven and Zak Whitbread are all to be sent on loan again.

ere

Sad to see the kids released, hope they find somewhere to ply their trade soon.

As for the loan lads really dont know why Rafa doesnt just sell them, they are getting on and surely LFC first team places will go to new signings and proven players?

Maybe the loan lads are sent out on a loan contract with an option to buy ?

Maybe the coaches see a glimmer of promise in them that just may grow enough for them to be brought back into the squad ?

Maybe there just isn't anyone willing to pay cash for them without taking them on loan.

How many of the youngsters do you think the coaches accept have next to no chance of making it. I was wondering this while watching the FA Youth Cup final. Say in our U16's team how many do you think the coaches think may make it and how many are there just to make up the numbers. Obviously i have no experience in youth football but i wouldn't be suprised if only 2 were considered to have a good chance of first team football and another 3 were considered to have a fair chance. Therefore the other 6 in the team plus the subs would only be there to aid the development of the most talented, and allow them to play in XI aside games. What do other people think?

I know you weren't really asking this but, our U-16s are very highly rated by the coaches. I was told by a couple of lads who work at the academy that there are 5 that they think could make it to the first team.

don't know whats surprising about this tbh.

So we relase some youngsters who aren't that good, and who will never make the grade here. Happens every year.

Ok the U14's!!!

good to here there is a good set of lads coming through

still even in that team that is considered very highly rated there must be some only there to make up the numbers.

Foy was quite highly rated I thought, obviously not.

Who was the next Steve Heighway at one stage wasn't he? Now not good enough for Sheff Wed :bye:

Newby has been released by Bury too.

I saw Newby 2 seasons ago when he joined my York on loan for 8 matches. York cancelled his loan as he was very poor! I was disappointed after I remembered a quality youngster looking to break through from the ressies. Guess it's never happened for him really. He's been back up at a few lower division teams.

Think he was some few years ago. He moved up to Melwood early considering his age and was a decent prospect. (Foy)

No, that's the lads from the u18s who won the Youth Cup. The likes of Spearing(although he was injured for most of it), Threlfall, Darby, Lindfield and Barnett. Parsonage from the u16s played in the Youth Cup too.

From some information that I have had, because virtually the whole of the dream team was kept on from heighway, there was little room to take in many from this years U16 into the academy. For all the money spent, may have been fewer than half a dozen, that news tend to filter down to others in the lower age groups and they do question if they will be allowed to progress

That's always good to hear. Slightly sorry to hear Foy is off though - had hopes for him.

Foy would come up with a nice trick every now and again and you couldn't fault his effort, but in general was a funny little fella with a ridiculous tan who was always going to be too lightweight to make it...

The phrase is 'to Partridge'.

as in "Robbie Foy should have gone to Hearts before he partridged."
