The shoot out a "lottery", rubbish

His reading and positioning are superb, be it as a sweeper keeper, or from free kicks/penalties, no wonder he came with such a great reputation regarding his penalty saving abilities.

Mentally strong as well, coming back after the second goal f*** up.

Great signing

If he cuts out the odd mistakes he makes (and he's still very young) he will become an awesome keeper.

technically he only made 1 mistake, the one for the second goal, i wouldnt blame him for the 3rd,

he then amde a savage double save at the start of the second half to keep us in it, not to mention that save at the death he put onto the post

then he saves 3 out of 4 penos, what more can you ask froma guy, his first peno save was unf***ingreal, i dont care what that spanner Ian Wright says about Zamora opening up his body, the ball was still right into the bottom corner, arguably the best peno save ive ever seen

and he`s still only 22

take out Ashton's goal and he had a superb game. The double save at the start of the second half and the last minute tip onto the post were exceptional. The penalties were more than luck. He has such great anticipation of where a player is putting the ball. The first penalty save was as good as any penalty save you'll ever see. He also couldn't do anything about Konchesky's goal.

And the best of it is, that future players taking pens against him will know all this and in their mind they'll already know that they'll have to be perfect.....Edge to Pepe!!

Agreed it was just a pure fluke, that prick Geoff Shreeves interview on SSN with him last night started with some s*** like "Well, you made two huge mistakes which led to goals today" Biff.

he seems a real character :D

Yesterday was his first final, and first winners medal wasnt it. Big day for Pepe!

He's great.

Was watching the penos again today, and he just moves incredibly quickly, seems to be able to move instantly as the player hits the ball.

You'll never cut out the odd mistake, he's only human. He'll make the odd mistake just like Buffon etc do. He's already a brilliant goalie.

Reminded me of the Westerveld save in the charity shield against Utd.

The interview after the game- Pepe's looking around at the stands while answering the questions, so his pupils were barely visible. Combine that with his odd sporadic English, having to shout over the noise and still out of breath. Bizarre.

He was saying he thought he had an awful game. Strange and good to hear someone being so sincere with interviews, especially just after they've lifted the cup. Not defensive in any way.

First goal either he didn't shout loud enough, or Carragher didn't hear, so it's possible that could be partially his fault. Second obviously a mistake. Third, I'm not sure. The fingertip save and penalties though, he completely redeemed himself.

He's an excellent buy. The pundits either didn't know or weren't interested that the guy's no more than a kid in goalkeeping terms. He's could be playing for 15 more years, and he seems to have the necessary attitude to constantly continue improving.

He has continued the mantel of Liverpool keepers who like to make Final's interesting. None of that clean sheet stuff. He likes to tease the opposition by giving them a goal or two lead and then pull their hearts out with heriocs.

That save onto the post was save of the season.

I really don't understand how anyone can believe he should've saved their 3rd, either. I could almost understand some sort of argument if he was settled, as in it was a free-kick, but it was a cross that had him scrambling straight away. No keeper in the world would've saved it.

Obviously it was a big mistake for the 2nd goal, but take that out and it was a fantastic performance. Solid from crosses be it catching or punching, and that's not bad when you've got Ashton breathing down your neck and you've already made a mistake. Good distribution as usual, some solid saves from free-kicks, an excellent double-save at the start of the second-half, plus that incredible one onto the post, and then penalties. Fantastic keeper - he's great.

I can't understand why some people seem to think Reina was at fault for the 3rd goal?? totally nuts, nobody would have saved it.. it was a freak goal. Do people think that because it was only meant to be a cross that it should have been easy to save? it flew right in over the top into the far corner........... no chance!

Ya what a f***ing c***.... I hope my language doesn't offend anyone (except that f***ing c***!!). I remember watching that lil guilt trip he was trying to pull on Reina and thinking to myself... the mans just won us the god damn game and he's got to put up with that s***. If that were me Id have told him to go f*** himself and gone back to my celebrations. No time for any media people trying to further dramatise things.

c***!

the guy goes mad for every goal we score... he's nothing but class. can see reina becoming a legend

After the second goal, where he should have covered the ball up, there were at least 2 other similar occasions in the match where the ball was belted at him and he did what he should have done the first time. For me, that is the most impressive thing about him, he understands that he still has a job to do for his team despite anything that has happened before. It would have been easy for him to lose control of any of those other shots - and a lesser keeper would have.

Also, in the post match interviews Pepe was saying that he got 'lucky' in the shoot-out, but from what I saw luck had nothing to do with it. Many keepers do just gamble for penalties (i.e. just pick one side and dive that way), he seems to trust his reflexes and shot stopping ability to such an extent that he waits to see where the shot is going first. We didn't really have many penalties against us during the season, but I remember Pepe also going the right way for one and the ball squirming under his body (Chelsea at home, maybe?) He was livid with himself afterwards, as he thought he should have saved it.

The other thing I remember from after the match on Saturday is the celebrations between Pepe, Jerzy & Scott Carson. It's great to such a team spirit between guys who are competing for the same spot.

Quick question on penalty shoot outs. Is the Goalie allowed to step forward and then dive to the side?

A lot of Hammer fans in the pub kept saying Reina stepped well over the line but from my understanding, I think he jumped forward just as the player was about to kick the ball ..then dived to the side as the ball was kicked.
