Rooney is a good player, he is not the second coming of Maradona as he was being lauded a few years ago. I think for the money they paid for him and someone continually classed as "world class" i would be looking for a bit more from him. He hasnt progressed the way people thought he would after Euro 04. I rarely read papers or what "journalists" have to say, how are they any better qualified than the average fan with half a brain? If you cant make your own mind up about a given issue without needing the guidance of some journalist you shouldnt watch the game. Why do people give them so much credence? Its like those spoons on the "Sunday Supplement", what the f*** is that all about? What qualifications do they have to comment on the state of football?

I quite enjoyed it. It was refreshing compared to the "we have the quality" and "we have possibilities" that Rafa usually gives the scum journalists. They must have been creaming their y-fronts. On a pure skill level mid table or lower La Liga teams have a greater skill level than EPL teams in similar positions. Remember last year a perceived weak Barcelona team played United off the pitch for two legs and if Samuel Etoo hadnt been such a lazy, useless t*at they would have beaten United.

I dont really see what is so "loathsome" about him. I always liked him taking Alan Shearer to task for him pathetic, banal "analysis" in the BBC studio when the Euros or World Cup was on.

Has anyone read Gary Imlachs tremendous book "My father and other working class heroes"? Broadly about this subject, the players used to walk to the home matches with the fans. Sport and top level football is so far removed from normal society now.
