That was my thought. It was probably hard for them to back down in the first place and the publicity in a strange way may not have helped them to do so. Good Luck to Michael Shields, Martin Georgiev and both their families in putting their lives back together in some way over time. Desperately sad case all round.

My feeling at the time exactly ( and my feelings about him as a player are not exactly secret), but now having seen the recording, I think he did over react, but not as badly as i thouight at the time and there was clear contact with his face. And his elbow also made contact, which I didnt see when there. But the whole thing could have been handled with more sensitivity by the ref. And with more intelligence by the players concerned in the first place.

Appeal being heard today - do they normally happen in the morning?

If you saw a lot of police cars at Upton park after and heard the announcement during the game that a road was closed due to an incident, a local lad has died today after injuries received in a gang fight. Nothing to do with the game or football at all.
