seems the fans have really taken to him... NOW with sissoko out, isnt it time to recall the sheriff???? would certainly add a bit of bite and be a whole lot better than zenden..... in my opinion, he wasnt given that many chances as a center mid....c`mon maybe im insane, still.....hes still our player and we need some f***ing grit right now... check out these coments from the stoke fans... http://boards.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=9...ytoid=530803167 OldStokie Posted on 7/11 10:02 Email this Message | Reply re: Salifs lovin it -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Diao...what a player! He makes hard things look simple. He won't win many MOM awards because he's the kind of player you hardly see in a game. He's like an orchestral conductor. You won't realise how important he is until he's not there. He's my kind of player. I love watching class players. OS. fornside Posted on 7/11 10:04 Email this Message | Reply re: Salifs lovin it -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mick I was just thinking last night that he wouldn't win many MOTM awards - but he doesn't seem to have bad games either. That sort of consistency in the middle of the park is something we have been crying out for, for as long as I can remember. 1STEINO Posted on 7/11 10:18 Email this Message | Reply re: Salifs lovin it -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lst night Salif had a 100% pass completion. He is exactly what was missing. We need to do everything possible to keep him IMHO!! 1steino stokie1000 Posted on 7/11 10:38 Email this Message | Reply re: Salifs lovin it -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- yes diao is fantastic, and i also think he would accept wages of 7-8 grand p/w some of the balls he plays are fantastic, and he is calm on the ball, we need him on a perminent as much as hendrie, same with griff too stokie1000 Posted on 7/11 10:39 Email this Message | Reply re: Salifs lovin it -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- yes diao is fantastic, and i also think he would accept wages of 7-8 grand p/w some of the balls he plays are fantastic, and he is calm on the ball, we need him on a perminent as much as hendrie, same with griff too EDIT, hes our viera bayernoatcake Posted on 7/11 14:11 Email this Message re: Salifs lovin it -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Diao is class. He mops up the lose balls, controls it one touch and passes it with the next. He is a joy to watch in the middle with his controlled passing, calm head and class. Out the of the loans he was the one I was most sceptical about. But he has proven what a top player he is! Carry on with the good work lad! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the above is only just touching on some of the praise he is getting!!

cant believe people are moaning about that article...seems about right to me....
-
has been awful this season.. worst ive seen him in the best part of 3 seasons.... hyypia is getting most of the blame, but for me he didnt do a whole lot wrong today.. carra seemed to be on a different wavelength to everyone else, especially when pushing up for offsides.. i love carra, but he just doesnt seem quite right at the mo.

the board wouldnt pay the money, which would`ve made a huge loss after what we sold him for...makes sense and in hindsight...was the right move not to sign him.

"Maybe we could try Bellamy wide for some games?" oh please no, thats probably my one pet gripe....moving strikers about and trying to turn them into wide players... heskey, diouf, cisse and next bellamy....god i hope not, if it happens...then it surely means craig is out the door.
-
maybe its some sorta curse we`ve had since the peak days of owen... cisse, kewell, diouf and even pongo...all were quick of the blocks, pacy players before they joined , yet look liked they were carrying a fecking a lorry on their back when with us now pennant and even gonzalez are struglling to beat players by using their pace and more than often cut inside.. it seems we`ve lacked for any sort of pace and skill/tricks since owen/mcmanaman

thought the ref had a good game today/!!?!?!!! tried to let the game flow....wasnt a hard game to ref, still some of the coments on here are baffle me.

well i think most would agree that our first choice 11 is.....(and yes at the end of the day, we do have a first 11) -----------------reina-------------- finnan--carra---hyypia------riise ------------------------------------ gerrard-alonso-sissoko-garcia ------kuyt--------crouch--------- Rafa has spent the first few months resting players/tried different options and it seems to me the above 11 is the first choice with the left mid position being rotated, ie garcia with gonzalez out of that, only kuyt is the sole new player...gonzalez was always going to be one who would take time to adjust and grow into the premiership. But really Bellamy, zenden and pennant are what they were surely bought as...squad players, Gerrard was always gonna be number 1 on the right hand side...with the odd game playing inside and pennant coming in to cover. Aurillo looked pretty awful when he played, certainly not the quality we need...yes he`ll of course be given time and more chances... still after looking at all the new signings, Kuyt is the one who is true world class and actually takes our side to a different level... Palletta, gonzalez and agger are for the future... but for me, the three signings from premiership clubs(ones who should have settled and looked better than they have)...pennant,zenden and bellamy dont give me any real confidence of becoming true first 11 players....the type who will actually guide us forward and make a big difference in games. Maybe my point is, this past summer we spent big on one true world class player, ready for the big games......and the rest spent on 4-5 good back up squad players with a few to the future.. Next summer, we need more like kuyt.....instead of 5-6 decent squad players, 1-2 top quality world class players ready and intellegent enough to stamp their mark upon liverpool football club NOW. We now have a decent squad....time for some more world class. 20-25million on two top class players required.

some weird ratings on here, makes me wonder if those have actually watched the game/?!?!?! right, i watched the full game..heres my ratings reina 6 didnt have a great deal to do, except for clattering into the reading forward first few mins of the games, and one nervous flap 2nd half.. finnan 6 fairly quiet game for finnan, hardly any threat came down his side...did ok when going forward hyypia 7 excellent game from sami, again was not under too much trouble at the back, yet got forward really well and nearly scored a screaming ronnie whelan-esque curler from 25 yards carra 6 , same as finnan and hyypia as to being not too troubled, yet still looks jittery to me and not like the usual carra...one note, got forward a few times like hyypia and a good shot first half that just went over the bar riise 6 quiet game for riise, didnt do a whole lot...cant remember much about his performance except one weak shot wide 2nd half alonso 6 did ok, sprayed the passes around well...played fairly deep today, still finding his best form i believe gerrard 7 worked his socks off, always looking to get involved...best ive seen him for awhile pennant 6 did ok, but with the amount of the ball he had..should`ve done a whole lot more, still seems to be struglling to beat players and is cutting inside far too often zenden 6 some nice touches, didnt get involved a whole lot.. crouch 7 worked hard, held the ball up well...worked superbly with kuyt, especially with the movement of the ball kuyt 8 mom, was involved in all our best stuff...always shouting at teammates, trying to help....gonna be a fantastic player for us overall a 6.5....a decent workmanlike performance, great to get a victory after a midweek champs league game....and of course, a clean sheet
-
anyone know if his coaching team includes bergues?
-
i love riise, hes been a great player for us.....but hes still not quite the quality we need, and im talking to win consistently in the league, for us to win the premiership of course we need quality competetion for finnan??!? and carra covering there? c`mon....we dont wanna move our center backs around because we dont have a dedicated right back. and yes we need a different option as a striker, im willing to give bellamy time of course, im also willing to bet he isnt quite good enough for us.....
-
definetly agree with that, interesting maybe that the last 2 games have only featured kuyt starting as the sole new player..both games argubly our best performances of the season. We need to spend big in the summer on 2 world class players,we certainly have a good squad...but not enough world class to win consistently week in,week out
-
was suprised as some of the confidence on here after our early season beating of chelsea in the charity shield.... well maybe i wasnt suprised, a bunch of impressive new faces added to our already impressive squad, alot of money spent on some experienced in the u.k with young talent with the likes of gonzalez plus the kuyt signing which came a bit later.. Still it was always gonna take till around this time for new players to settled and others...gerrard,carra,alonso etc to find their feet again after a hectic summer.. so november is here and low and behold we are now starting to find a balance and are looking like a proper top side again......all good and we shall now probably go on a fantastic run. Yet still i would be highly suprised if we won the league..or came 2nd so my prediction before the start of the season remains.. a slow start with us finding our feet around november time a decent champs league tourn with us getting the to the q-finals 3rd or 4th place in the league and a worthy/league/whatever its called cup win. Still think Rafa needs the backing of the board to make more true world class signings next summer for us to get closer to winning the title....more gambles need to come from the board, todays resignation from the rat, shows us that Rafa does have full backing from the others, now he needs to be backed in the transfer market...yes alot of money was spent in the summer, but not enough when you take into account what the net balance is after sales... For a true return to the top of the league, we need world class quality over the pitch. players rafa wanted like alves,simao,etc...are ones rafa would have bought if allowed the funds.. Im not fully dismissing the current squad, just saying i dont think we have quite enough quality throughout to seriously challenge on a week in/out basis....great on one -off games.....just not enough for the premiership. For me we lack.. a top quality left back quality competition for finnan a back up/experienced hard-man for sissoko a speedy striker i dont think anyone will disagree with that.
-
well we obviously need a 4th striker...so yes we do need him. do i rate him? no...not really
-
still some strange reactions to crouch.. think hes a very intellegent player, holds the ball up well, is skillfull with the ball at his feet, brings players into the game..
-
an all round 8... no one particually outstanding, just an all round very good performance.....so an 8 all round.

Thoughts after watching the game
floyd the barber replied to floyd the barber's topic in Liverpool FC
dunno it was a tough one, i dont think there was any intent...both players went in for the ball, 50-50... alonso certainly didnt seem angered by it. -
well the first 45mins was the best ive seen from us in a long, long time.. 2nd half we were pretty good too, with one lapse of concentration from carra leading to the goal.. some fantastic passing and movement, with our back 4 playing a higher line than what we have seen usually.. Hopefully Rafa shall stick with that starting 11, as we seemed to click all over the pitch.. A special mention for kuyt and crouch, linked up well and have to be our first choice now....still suprised by how much stick crouch gets, he was superb today....again. oh and one last thing, yet another visiting teams supporters outsung us.....could hardly hear the kop all game.

Liverpool top of the league; chelsea propping up table
floyd the barber replied to growler's topic in Liverpool FC
whats more shocking is how many people have bought the above books....... terrible... -
footballers are celebrities....like movie and pop stars before, they are now gossiped about with every move they make being under the microscope...not forgetting of course, their performances.. part of the job, and if they cant handle it....well they can quit and go get a normal job and give up the big money. yes they are human, but for the past 10-15 years football has been under a bigger microscope than ever before...only the naive wouldnt realise their performances and private life wouldnt be gossiped about on the internet or in magazines. also would say that the mentallity of english players in particular is weaker than those in say italy or south america who have grown up and been taught about the pressures of being a professional footballer. feel bad for saying it, but the majoriy of english footballers are not exactly gifted with much of a brain(blame the schooling/coaching,etc,etc)...again a weakness which is easily exploited by the english press.

cant believe people are saying owen, for christs sake hes injured and will ever be the owen of a few years back.. didi - not setting the world alight at city, but still we miss his experience badly
-
a coincidence or not... when Houllier lost his main man behind the scenes...patrice bergues, everything basically collapsed and we went downhill.. Rafa lost his main man behind the scenes in the summer....now we look a complete mess Anything in this??? or no??
