I was talking to a united fan last night about the Burnham clanger. He was saying the only good way of looking at it is he needed to say it, he will have been under pressure from the money men, but that might now be it. He hasn’t broken any promises to them, he’s intervened on their behalf, taken the pressure off, now he will let it happen without further intervention. Person I was talking to wasn’t particularly optimistic that this will actually come to pass but I thought it was a decent theory.

I guess part of this is just me continuing to explain it to myself as I did at the time. I made myself feel OK (ish) about the close ones by a) looking at games where we did it to ourselves and b) knowing deep down that the winners won by foul means. 13/14 City fell over the line after Arsenal, then Chelsea, then us had thrown it away. 21/22 we threw it away around Christmas and gave ourselves too much to do, then nearly did it.

I get that. I want them stripped. I don't really want to be awarded anything, and nor do I feel like I wasted my life following us during those seasons.

I don't feel like that. Maybe I'm as insane as Rooney, but we didn't do enough to win them leagues anyway, or we would have won them. Eventually we did. I'd feel a whole lot worse if that hadn't eventually come to pass I guess. I still feel more sick that Covid wrecked that pinnacle.
