I can imagine a scenario where better use of the ball means less running is needed, with opponents the one needing to close down and change positiion. I can image a scenario where less distance is covered, but there are more short bursts of speed: a different use of energy. I don't see either of those on the pitch though, when we have the ball it's pedestrian.

Needs a scapegoat. Can't pick anyone too influential as that would cause ruckus, also can't pick anyone not influential enough, as that would not make sense. The picked player needs an exact amount of influence.

I don’t know, I’m not a 3-4-3 expert. It’s not a system I’m particularly sympathetic or enthusiastic towards. Not sure it’s ’the Liverpool way’. Wouldn’t have thought we should play it and enjoyed Amorim failing miserably. There are 2 plusses though, it’s the system the top available coach plays and it feels ‘moneyball’. Defenders are generally cheaper. i think Slot’s “low block teams” problem is a red herring. It’s an excuse for not beating bad teams. He can’t beat high block teams either. If you play pedestrian football no formation will work out.

Thanks Hass. So i didn't think Alonso would be a good match, because we don't have the centre backs for his style of play. But it's becoming more and more likely that we don't have the wingers for our current style of play. And forwards are generally harder to come by and more expensive than defenders. So if we go the 3-4-3 option we'd need 2 centre backs and that's it. Perhaps a LWB if Kerkez can't play there, but i'm not convinced he can't, the lad certainly has the stamina for it. If we stick with the 4-3-3 we'd still need a centre back, but also a left and right forward and those guys are generally a lot more expensive. Selling Gakpo, Salah & Chiesa and putting the funds towards Alonso and the players he needs might not be the worst idea in the world.

Kerkez & Bradley/Frimpong. I reckon they'd all be awesome as wing backs. We don't have enough CB's. So if we're going 3-4-3 we'd need 2 shiny new CB's. However, if we keep with the system we have now we need new wide forwards, at least 1 on the left and at least 1 on the right, and they'd need to be really good. From a recruitment point of view it's probably easier to play 3-4-3 next year than 4-3-3.

My question was by what rule was advantage not played. As far as i can tell @Ombudsam was the only one who was able to give a logical explanation. Besides, i oft get the impression that referees make up the rules as they see fit...

I still don't understand what happened. When there's a foul but the side whose been fouled against has the advantage then the advantage is played. Why didnt the ref just accept there was a foul, play advantage and allow the goal to stand? If it was the first minute of the game and the options are goal or red card + penalty it's perahps debatable, but in the last minute of the game with a team winning 2-1 it's obvious they prefer the goal.

I think you're both right. Isak & Ekitike are good options to have as forwards. We really need to improve the wingers, or play a system that uses wing backs insteam of wingers. Cause Gakpo/Salah/Chiesa arent bringing it.

If it's Slot's fault that Bradley is injured, does that make it Klopp's fault that Bradley was so often unavailable previously? There's plenty of sticks to beat Slot with, not sure i want to touch the injury stick.
