You're missing the point. He gets to them but his technique is often poor when he does - that relies on others clearing up after him and that's getting highlighted now because we've become worse as a team in doing that. If his headers were better quality and directed to less dangerous areas there would be less clearing up to do. Virg is way better at that.

Exactly. His heading's never been great quality, we're just not as good as clearing up around it at the moment for some reason - so it's more obvious.

Then explain why we're giving up all these second chances? He's a big part of that Great example of a stat that doesn't pass the eye test.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. He might be getting his head on the ball but if the quality of contact is crap then it doesn't help much. One of our biggest defensive problems this year is giving up second phase possession after set pieces. We often get to the ball first but we can't control and clear it properly, giving the opposition quality second chances to score. That's not just on Ibu of course, but you can see with your own eyes his technique ain't great.

I kind of get it for the FA Cup, but doing it for the Carabao's a joke when you're already at the SF stage before new players come in.

Not really. With a restricted market of players that'll move in the winter window and a couple of teams with problems at CB, Palace can keep the quoted price high - they have leverage they didn't have in the summer. Whether clubs will pay it and whether Guehi will potentially compromise his Bosman for the sake of 6 months are a different matter.

Yeah - our finances are such that we should expect to be able to spend £150-200m net each summer and still break even. There'll be questions to answer if we don't do that - as all along the line coming out of FSG is that we can spend what we earn.

Yeah I said a few times that I thought the players were being bought to change the shape and where the creativity came from with Trent leaving. I don’t know what the end formation they had in mind (if they ever did) was, but trying to play the same one as last year wasn’t it. The injuries haven’t helped, but neither has the unwillingness to adapt.

Mostly agree with that - but Endo's only just started training again after 2 months out. Would have been stunned to see him used except in in an emergency tonight. The lack of use of Rio off the bench this season is one of many many things that I don't get.
