Im not sure that Duff would be instead of Alves. Duff is quality when playing left,right or in the middle. I think we would probably sign Duff instead of Kuyt. I think Alves will play many games at right back as well as right wing, therefore we would have a lot of options: Gonzalez left,Duff right and Alves right back or Gonzalez left,Alves right and Duff in the middle and finally Duff left, Alves right and Finnan right back.

Milan seem to be desperate to be given a uefa cup spot, quite suprising as Italian clubs usually don't rate the competition. Wonder if they have a few players in their squad who have clauses in their contracts related to not qualifying for any european competition.

If it doesn't affect how he plays then he can do what he wants(within reason), but it's not as simple as him just having a few drinks is it. He has a problem with alcohol and imo would do well to avoid it. Incidentally i reckon we will sign both Alves and Pennant.

Really? Don't think he has enough goals in him to play such an advanced role. He looks a great prospect but his one weakness is that he just never looks like scoring, this seems to be the case with a lot of Spanish midfielders. They can pass and pass the ball for fun keeping possesion for hours but they do lack players who can drive forward fom the midfield with pace and aggresion. Its a shame for Spain that Baraja had such a bad season and isn't going to tha world cup because he is the closet Spain have to a player fitting this role. I don't think Xavi has played enough football since his injury to justify a starting place ahead of some of the other midfielders.

Agree with most of that but i wouldn't sayplaying on the right for Holland would class as playing in midfield.

cough..Bellamy.. good post,pretty much how i see it. Think a player like Bellamy would also be important in any games where Gerrard starts on the right. Bellamy(or someone like him) makes a lot of runs into the channels(particulary drifting to the right).

Come to think of it he is the Fabregas replacement for when he goes back to Spain...

Good player but I think Wenger should concentrate on trying to get a bit of power and physical presence into that midfield.

Was going to say the same thing, watched many times in various youth games on eurosport etc and he always plays well. He's a classy center back good on the ball,seems to command the defence and makes up for his lack of pace by reading the game well for such a young player. He is nearly always captain at various levels and i think he'd be a good signing(if we hadn't already signed him) as a possible star of the future.
