Can't believe that Lucas can't even get in some people's top 3! Our best player by some distance yesterday, I thought. And, in the times when it wasn't going well, the lad doesn't hide. Most improved player of the season. In fact, the only improved player of the season?

Some things that will make the rest of the season easier

Santa leaving a pressie which restores the season to factory settings. -
Of all those mentiioned, surely he is a clone of Rafa? They share many, many similar traits.

Lucas seems to be doing well isn't he?
meredithmathieson replied to New York Red 's topic in Liverpool FC
To be fair, the one accusation I think that you cannot make against Lucas is that he is spineless. In fact, the way he doesn't hide when not playing well - unlike certain other individuals - probably doesn't help him at times. -
Yeah, I'm sure Gareth Southgate is a barrel of fun to work for.

Or another club where any transfer sales does not necessarily translate into more money for purchases? Unless anybody has missed it, Rafa Benetiz is not working to the same rules as his rival managers.

True that. Gillett and Hicks for lying; putting hundreds of millions of pounds of debt on the club that never used to exist; disgracing the club by courting managerial alternatives; claiming more in expenses that the net spend on transfers for the last God knows how long; failure to build the stadium that was the original raison d'etre for Moores selling thus meaning we are ever further behind our competitors financially= 99.999999999999% of the blame; Rafa for the occasional bit of stubbornness and the odd mystifying substitution shoulders all of the rest of the blame.

I think we should ask a Liverpool Legend
meredithmathieson replied to anny road's topic in Liverpool FC
I have posted this before, so apologies, but: A very good mate of mine was retiring a few years back, having been a civil servant all his life. Genuinely sound fellah, salt of the earth and a massive Red. Over a few pints one night, he was talking about Sir Roger, which got me to thinking. So I wrote to the ex-players association via the club, explaining the above, and asking would Roger be so kind as to present my mate's leaving gift. Duly received a phone call, where Sir Roger said he would be delighted to do so, confirmed the venue details and declined any money for appearing! Wouldn't even let us arrange a taxi to pick him up and take him home so that he could have a bevvy! Genuinely, genuinely cracking bloke. So, what happens then? They changed the retirement rules where me mate works, and he decides to stay on, as he's worked all his life and wouldn't know what to do otherwise. He was completely oblivious of what we had lined up for him, and said that, had he known, he probably would have decided to retire!! And I had to explain that to Sir Roger. I was gutted myself, never mind my mate. -
SOS says No to a Ground Share!
meredithmathieson replied to Spirit Of Shankly 's topic in Liverpool FC
Once you get past the 'half the cost of building the ground' argument, the reason why Liverpool will not groundshare with Everton is the long-term impact on revenue - especially the sharing of corporate revenues. In essence, this is why Inter Milan are getting their own ground and moving out of the San Siro. As we are one of the biggest clubs on the planet, we will in the future be able to get the money for a new ground; Everton, if you recall, could not come up with a paltry £30m that would have got them a 55,000 seater stadium at Kings Dock - a prime city-centre, dockside stadium. -
Thought exactly the same.

You're probably right about that ticket exchange system. Had an Irish lad sat behind me - a Season Ticket Holders seat - who proceeded to have a chat on the mobie during the second half. And then duly slagged the team off at the end. k****ead.

There seemed to be an awful lot of day trippers yesterday, plus a 12:45 kick-off is never ideal for atmosphere. A bit harsh to blame Block 306 et al, you do hear noise emanating from them pretty much all the time [i'm in the Upper Centenary], but it doesn't always stretch to the rest of the Kop (Particularly thinking of that 'Coming down the road' song).
-
Surely he would have played at some stage yesterday had we not been forced to make two substitutions, the first as early as the 6th minute? Didn't leave a lot of options, and to be honest my thoughts at that stage were that he would bring Riera on, switch Yossi to the right and shift Dirk up alongside the willing but ineffective N'Gog.

FWIW, Tony Barratt on another Reds site has said that no agreement has been reached with anybody (i.e. transfer fee or alleged wages) re. Mascherano.

Or we were flying Ryanair. No seats left.

LIVERPOOL v MANCHESTER UNITED
meredithmathieson replied to Ramón Benítez Hernández 's topic in Liverpool FC
Seriously, just how many times did Rooney go up to the referee during the game? 15? 20? He's not the Captain. The ref should have told him where to go and then book him if he persisted. Why is he allowed to get away with this? And the fact that he never gets booked for dissent. Ever. Even though he tells the ref to 'f off' on a regular basis. -
Mr Anny Road, Just listened to that, superb. On a separate issue, anybody ever tried to get through on 606 to have a go back at the knobheads slagging us off? They're just not interested. I suppose 'Rafa is doing a great job in extremely trying circumstances' doesn't make for as good dumbdown radio as 'We should sack Rafa and get Mourinho and then sign Kaka, Messi etc etc". Should start a campaign to get Radio presenters the sack - show them what it's like.
-
Seconded. And for those who do query Rafa, the problem remains: what top class manager would touch Liverpool with a bargepole at the moment? Limited transfer budget, quarrelling lying owners with different agendas, banks on our case, huge expectations nevertheless that we should win the top trophies?
-
The same opta stats that used to show that Phil Babb was the 'best' (i.e. most successfully completed passes) passer of a ball in the 90s Liverpool team? Basically because Digger used to drop so deep as to virtually take it off his toes, as he couldn't be trusted.
-
Pleased with Lucas thus far, but he needs to knock that 'bundling into opposition players from behind wherever they are on the pitch and then staring with wide eyed incredulity at the inevitable free kick' thing on the head before it really hurts us.

Agree with that. -
Had it been the other way round, I'm sure this mornings Press would have been full of 'Liverpool jeopardize England World Cup chances in petty club dispute', or some such.

Not sure this is the right thread for this, but: Sitting in the Upper Centenary for the Stoke game, there was an odd sight in the Main Stand: a band of white for 8-10 rows at the front starting behind the paddock. Initially I thought a lot of people had just happened to wear the away tops/ 35 Summers t-shirts, until you then realised it was fans wearing formal work-shirts. I presume this is all corporate now, therefore? It ran right the way across. Never noticed this before - which I suppose you wouldn't until it is a really warm day. How long has that been corporate?
