  1. Was one of the few in the ground that day, as away fans were banned. Nearly got my head kicked in at one of those penalty shouts - it must be one of the hardest things to do, not shout for a penalty when it's your team. A Liverpool fan in K stand did get well and truly battered. The first time that Sky postponed a mtach in order to allow a returning Manc to be made available to play. Cantona's ban ran out on the 30th September, so they played the game on the 1st Oct.
  2. Re: Mascher: Although not the most important issue at play here, it always irritates me that we have paid the wages throughout the summer in these situations. Enquiry mafe for Bobby Zamora according to The Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/7972518/Liverpool-rebuffed-by-Fulham-over-Bobby-Zamora-interest.html
  3. " Without disrespect to Roy, he has not been appointed to bring us back on our perch." Absolutely. The first time in my lifetime where we have appointed a manager with no expectation/hope of winning the league.
  4. Glen Johnson poor, yet again. Can Roy have a word with Steven Gerrard and tell him that he doesn't need to try and find Nando with every single ball - most obvious when he ignored the simple pass to Maxi, bombing down the right, in favour of a 'through the eye of a needle' reverse pass, which failed.
  5. A modern day Emlyn Hughes?
  6. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/100/petition-against-the-rbs-loan-to-lfc Currently stands at less than 5,000 signatures.
  7. Ibrahimovic is indeed a conundrum, DH. Top managers have spunked multi-millions on him over the years, yet most fans (that I know of) just don't seem to rate him. One thing that must go against him though is that damning statistic in the CL game last year - was it against Inter at the Nou Camp? - where the ProZone figures showed that he had covered less ground than the Barca goalie. I must admit, I wondered if we might ask for Balotelli in exchange for Masch, on the grounds that we can recruit a holding midfielder (Poulsen, Flamini etc) for far less than a top striker. Plus it would piss Man City off to boot.
  8. My take on it too. The fact that the Huang camp have gone public with their bid suggests that they, too, are unsure of which way Broughton will go. At least we know, via his proxy Maddock, that Purslow is pro-Huang.
  9. Just one more sleep, and the whole nightmare will be over.
  10. Piece of piss for The Hodgemeister, that one. But: Would he have fired a tazer at Raoul Moat? Or attack an Israeli paratrooper boarding a Turkish aid worker / ideological activist's boat [delete to suit personal bias] Anybody else hearing about us being in talks with Steven Ireland?
  11. Sounds like you've spent hours pondering that one, Tony, sat in front of an open fire, stroking your chin..'Mmm, I wonder, if only he had the money...'
  12. Great turnout. Geat day. A credit to all involved.
  13. Dion Fanning article. Pretty much on the money, as usual: http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/hodgson-makes-right-noises-in-the-wrong-place-2245508.html
  14. Is it just me or are we missing the purchase of Mascherano in that list? [Not the loan value of 'O'].
  15. Funny, but I read it as quite the opposite! i.e." Younger-Sky-I want-Everything-Now" Generation as anti-Rafa, and the arl arses of the world such as myself, more pro-Rafa. Having said that, I must be in a minority because, compared to the fans reaction on the offal, nobody I know has been more than lukewarm about this appointment.
  16. First mention that I have seen in the press of the much travelled '£560 million Middle East bid' rumour. Hiddink? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1289894/Liverpool-snub-Rafa-Benitez-25m-Javier-Mascherano-Barcelona-preparing-pounce.html?ITO=1490
  17. Or maybe it was the moveable feast that evolved last summer over what is regarded as transfer spend (copyright Mr. C. Purslow) that led to the request this year? Anybody stil believe Purslow's assertion that transfer monies are ringfenced in their own transfer 'pot'?
  18. Surely we need to know whether or not the 'P' in 'P Thompson' stands for Peter or Phil? Drastically affects the balance of the team.
  19. You reckon? Personally, I think it is going to get worse, as the boot is now on the other foot: i.e. all those who were saying that getting rid of Rafa was the path to mediocrity will feel vindicated by the appointment of Roy Hodgson; most of those who wanted Rafa out will try and defend the situation somehow rather than admit that they got it wrong.
  20. Oh I dunno. Might make a few players think hard and long before handing in a transfer request.
  21. "There were practically no positives at all until he took the shackles off a bit at the end of the season." This "shackles" bit is becoming a bit of a mantra: is it not really just about players coming back from injury/finding form/gaining confidence?
  22. 'Earl Hafler' : Giving the owners the majority of the blame for on-the-pitch difficulties is " short sighted " Completely disagree. Lack of investment + change in the way we account for transfers (cp Purslow) + mistakes by Rafa = where we are today. As an aside (and not aimed at any individuals on here) I wonder how many people blame Rafa because it is just easier? Because they do not want to contemplate the complete and utter financial black hole that we are in, and it is just easier to vent at Rafa/Lucas/Kuyt? We are on the verge of losing the best coach that we have had probably since Paisley. And yet there are some who will be glad of this?
