What he said.. I'm conflicted, my heart says I'd have him back in a second, and I'd love to see him given a chance to prove his detractors wrong, but the press in general, fans of other teams and too many of our fans have such a negative view of him that I don't think he'd be given a fair crack of the whip. Since we overpaid for too many of the players bought last year I'm not convinced that FSG will be prepared to spend the money that they should to improve the squad this summer, and if Rafa is forced into wheeling and dealing then too many people (including the doubters amongst our own fans) will criticise the players he signs cheaply who don't succeed rather than look at the ones who do. He's been brilliant at spotting talented players in a higher price band who can then go on to become even better (e.g. Masch, Xabi, Torres), but even if he's given a decent budget I suspect that those will all be forgotten and people will just mention Aquilani, and if he's forced to shop in the bargain basement then he won't be given a clean slate, he'll get Voronin, Josemi, Nunez etc quoted all the time (regardless of the circumstances he was forced to work in at the time or what he did for our club). Actually on second thoughts sod it, I'd love to have him back if KK doesn't continue - because we need to be realistic and face the fact that without decent investment there's pretty much zero chance that we'll be able to attract another manager of his class, and it feels as though we're only a season or so away from spending the next ten years in mid-table obscurity worrying more about relegation than fighting for European places or even the title...
