This happened to me in the Champions League quarter final against Leverkusen a few years ago. I was sat behind the goal in the Anfield Road end when Vlad had a header which went high and wide and I palmed the ball back towards the pitch. Lucky for me that the little Champions league winning superstar was rubbish at heading
That's what I keep thinking too ~ when you compare some of the teams Man U put out to ours, then man for man our team is better, yet they get the results and we don't.
Great thread ~ That's a great photo and I remember looking at it again in the 90s thinking how far away it seemed, so that's why I liked the ones of Benitez, Moores and the back-room staff after we won it in Istanbul: King Kenny in that classic strip:
His corners were doing my head in ~ not one of them cleared the first defender. That 'better passer than Alonso' quote looks very dubious at the moment. It's still early days but I haven't been impressed with what I've seen of him yet either, his performances have just made me miss Riise.
Well I think that was a mistake too ~ anticipating the cross before making sure his front post was covered. I don't think Reina is as good as he's cracked up to be, and it reminds me of Dudek a bit, people making excuses for his mistakes until he makes too many to disguise.
Is this being published tomorrow to try and stir up a bit of friction between the supporters and Stevie G? Like others I don't see much difference between the NOTW and the Times in terms of ownership, and he probably had little say in the matter. Out of interest though, if the Sun had been the highest bidder for the serialisation would he have been powerless to stop it being published? (already answered above sorry ).
All I would say to that is that the atmosphere at the two Champions League semi-finals in 2005 could not have been more marked. Everyone at Anfield was passionate and desperate for our team to win, while the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge for such a big match was poor.
We've been missing width in our play for a while now, and Pennant's performance against Haifa was very encouraging. However when I think of great Liverpool wingers I think of Barnes, Beardsley and Heighway, I do not think of McManaman.
