Getting the player would be good and all but I’m quite interested in seeing if he’ll hold the line and refuse to play for the next four months. I certainly don’t want us to be paying even close to £150m for him.

I’d be surprised if Leoni wanted to come here this summer. Behind Virg, Konate and Guehi at 18? If he’s rated that highly then agree a deal for next summer. Leave him there to grow as a player and stick some sort of clause where we pay extra if we get injuries and need him earlier in the winter window. Does anyone think Huijsen would have developed so quickly had he come here and been third or fourth choice?

It doesn’t matter what any of them believe. Their opinion is of no more value than anyone else’s. They should know perfectly well he’ll return to training as soon as the window closes, should he still be a Newcastle player. What Suarez did was a million times worse and he came back. All they have to do is hold out for a couple of weeks. He isn’t going to refuse to play for them for the next four months and if they can’t get the players it is a no brainer.

Isn’t it obvious that Isak will be back playing for Newcastle in September if they don’t sell? He isn’t going to refuse to play football for the next four months regardless of how unhappy he is currently. If it gets to that stage he probably will sign a new contract with a lower release clause for next summer. I still think they’ll sell him to us but the player loses all power once the window shuts.

For the briefest moment Diouf looked like he could be great. Gave France a difficult time in the opening win for Senegal against them in 2002. Left Desailly on his backside. We hadn’t quite signed him at that point. I just went back and watched his match highlights. Senegal were offside 12 times and he was responsible for about nine of them. Puts Darwin to shame there. I’ve just come back from the airport after having my holiday cancelled. As I sat in the departure lounge I wondered whether I’d accept Nunez staying if it meant the flight went ahead. No I would not. I’m going to get pelters for this but selling Nunez would make me happier that signing Isak. The Ekitike signing was the one I really wanted. Not really arsed about Isak either way but selling Nunez would feel as good as the day Fowler came back.
