If Gerrard "owes the club nothing" then Rafa owes it even less and thus his priority, I imagine, is the welfare of his family. If your employer offered you a crazy amount of compensation, in case you were sacked by them, would you not accept it? It just demonstrates how poorly this club is being managed from the top.

The future (next 3 years at least) will be a lot worse than now as we enter a new 'transitional period' with a new 5 year plan

Don't get me wrong - I think he's a wonderful player and a legend (that get bandied about too easily these days but he really is) BUT he doesn't endear himself to the fans with his behaviour. With loyalty being a two-way street, I think he lost a lot of credit when he dallied with Chelsea TWICE before. He has certainly been moping around on the pitch during this season - that, to me, is not how a captain should behave regardless of whether he agrees or diagrees with the manager. Re Torres, maybe (and this is conjecture on my part) he feels that by not committing himself he is applying more pressure on the owners? It's interesting that when murmurs of Torres leaving first appeared people were very surpised (mainly because almost everything he has done prior to the past three months has reaked of loyalty). Not many were surpised to hear Gerrard might look elsewhere.

As already said, he has made statements in the recent past to apply pressure on the owners. Our star captain on the other hand (the boyhood Red, with the club since he was 8, club captain, yadda yadda yadda)...

what would they do? Sack him? f*** that. He should be saying the same things as Reina. He's the captain FFS! Even some minor dissent from him may help the myopic 'it's all Benitez's fault' part of our fan base to under stand the s*** we're in whereas Del Bosque doesn't mind?

To me, that does not tally with this: You can't lay all the blame at the feet of the owners / Rafa when some of the players have been moping around on the pitch for most of the season.

I'm not saying I believe he's going but it's all b******s this - he's club captain of the club he has supported and played for since he was a boy and when the club is going through it's greatest period of flux for decades he wants to f*** it off - nah, not having it! It's not like we're the f***ing blues**** - he's won every trophy out there except one ( THE big one ) with us. He should be looking forward to making amends next season by ripping into a few of the other shirkers in our team as the captain and the opposition (like we know he can when he's properly up for it).
