Czech bloke who doesn't drink? Come on!!! Could be that his downfall began when he decided to cut his hair (sort of) short. Excellent player he was for us. Still gutted he left. Wild, wild left boot he has. One of my favorite LFC goals ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8CCaW7XukQ Also that free-kick goal vs man U when we wore green jerseys with a white diagonal thing. Couldn't find it on youtube.

What has happened to BIF the last couple of seasons? They were no way near the top last season and have started this one pretty dreary (apart from the latest result). As far as I can remember they've always been cemented to the upper positions of the league. Think they will be able do challenge FCK for the title this year?

So far Rafa's put AA at LB and SF at RB whenever they play in the team together. Can't see that change. Don't know how good SF's left foot is to be honest. Still a Finnan-Carra-Agger-Arbeloa defense lineup sounds pretty good to me. One of the greatest anecdotes so far in Rafa's LFC history has to be the when bringing in this not-too-well-known (for most of us anyways) right fullback from Deportivo. Let him play his debut against Barcelona away in a Champions League quarter final as a left back, where he never played before!!

May I bring up a certain Mr. Arbeloa? I know LB is not favored position and Riise might be a better player going forward. But don't think I have ever seen him play a bad game for us during his so far short stay at the club.

I think a team that ends that high in the French league table could possibly be a mid-table team in the PL. They're hardly a crap side. We're better than them of course, but it's not like we haven't lost against worse teams than us before. Over two games anything can happen. Over the period of a season we are way ahead of them.

One thing that just struck me is how many people, me included, wanted a more careful transfer policy for this season compared to the previous one during the last campaign. Seeing that it took a lot of time for the new players to gel into the team and all. This time we essentially got one player who will waltz into most of our starting XIs. The rest of them are promising young players that surely needs to be eased into the squad and the so much talked about 'english game'. Kuyt will have some premiership experience under his belt. I can only immediately think of one striker recently (RvN) brought in from abroad into the premier league that was a direct hit. Players like Henry and Drogba both needed time to settle and produce large amounts of goals. I have absolutely no doubt we have yet to see the best of Dirk. Pennant is another player i have great hopes for this season. Needed half a season to get back into good form but ended on a high. He can take on players and put good crosses in. That's exactly was want our wingers to do. Yes, it's a shame he can't score more goals, but overall he seems slightly underrated by at lot of you all according to me. At the moment Kewell seems fit (knock on wood). He could be the left midfield player we missed last season. Benayoun and maybe Babel are better backup than what Man U have to Ronaldo. But more importantly imo than the new and almost new players is the spine of our squad. If Reina, Agger, Carra, Gerrard, Finnan and Alonso can improve on last season's performances we can go along way. That goes especially for Xabi and Gerrard. Not that they were bad last season but my feeling is that if they can move their game up a notch we can dominate every game we play regardless of opposition. As much as the next guy I wouldn't mind a new world class LB, winger(s) and perhaps another striker. But as long as Torres get 15+ league goals and plays as well he's capable of I don't think new signings are necessarily the key to next season's success. I think our new boys are OK. Torres is a great signing. We won't see the best of most of the other new signings until the season after this one and possibly later.

Non, rien de rien. Non, je ne regrette rien. Ni le bien qu'on m'a fait, ni le mal. Tout ca m'est bien égal. Non, rien de rien. Non, je ne regrette rien. C'est payé, balayé, oublié. Je me fous du passé. Avec mes souvenirs. J'ai allumé le feu. Mes chagrins, mes plaisirs. Je n'ai plus besoin d'eux. Balayés mes amours. Avec leurs trémolos. Balayés pour toujours. Je repars à zéro. Or something like that. Why?

'hyped' because he played very well? dunno about that. He was one of the 4-5 best players we had in the squad at that time. Problem with could have been he was best suited for the wing back role. Sort of a right sided version of Riise. Guess fitting him in a 442 formation wasn't too easy. Good call on Friedel though, remember all the trouble we went through to get him. Story reminds me of Gonzalez.

Seen loads of kids having superior skills than kids their age. Sure it's a good sign and all but come back in five years or so. If he is still that good compared to kids his then we've got.... another Samba! Also those goals are waaaaaaaay to big for nine year olds.

How many teams were seeded exactly? Seems strange we have to play on of the better teams in France and then the tie: Hafnarfjördur/BATE(WTF?) - Steaua Bucuresti/Zaglebie Lubin???????

On his better days Elmander could be very dangerous. Outperformed Agger in that abandoned euro qualifier game imo. In my view we could've hardly got a worse draw than we did. Think one of our strongest advantages will be that Toulouse will probably play a pretty cautious game against us + the 2nd leg being at Anfield. Lad will definitely have to be up for this one or we could be facing a huge c**k-up. Can't stand the thought of us dropping down to the UEFA-cup before the season hardly get started...

i remember once last season (forgot which game though) when we actually played the same XI two games in a row which Rafa was very keen on pointing out in the post-match interview together with a big smirk on his face.
-
Heggem!!!?? You must be kidding right? Always performed well when not injured. Can't remember him being very hyped either when he came from Rosenborg (because that's club we bought him from right?).

You do know there's a full color version of that picture earlier in the thread?

Today Swedish press reports that Jari has mutually ended his contract with Malmö FF as he has encountered another injury (achilles that needs surgery, rehabilitation takes 4-5 months). Strangely enough in the article he implies that he probably will play again after that. Most people getting injured at 36 and being out for nearly half a year would put an end to their career for sure.
