But surely when looking at the indvidual players England have a weaker side today than ever before as long as I can remember (late eighties). No good goalie, decent enough defender but nothing special, average midfield besides Gerrard and with Owen not being what he used to be the strikeforce is not even top 10 in europe right now. Or is it just my impression?

Excellent point imo. Babel is technically very skilled, he can run with the ball as well as Riise for one. But he can also hold it THEN make a move - beat a defender, get a shot in etc. Overall he is/will be a better footballer than Riise and againts teams like Sunderland we should focus on how to break down the oppo's defence not defending. We have four excellent defenders plus a def. mid. Should be enough.
