  1. Funny you should say that, there's rain forecast for the weekend.........
  2. or One Chopper, as the German commentator keeps calling him.....
  3. The Archie Gemmel goal against Holland on that ITV link takes some beating, as does the strike by Aarie Haan for Holland against Italy. He must have been nearly 40 yards out
  4. This is very true. In fact, there's a good case for seeing them as the Bundesliga's prime parasites. I've seen it so often over the last 25 years here. Other clubs get talented players (Podolski at Cologne, Ballack, Ze Roberto, Lucio, Kovac at Leverkusen, Scholl and Kahn from Karlsruhe - you could go on forever) and Bayern muscle them out financially. The difference to Chelsea is that Bayern have worked their way into this position of strength based on a superb player generation up to the mid 70s and excellent financial management from the early 80s. I still can't stand them, though.
  5. Sticking my neck out here, but I think Arsenal have got a brilliant player who I'm pretty sure will have more of an impact in the Premiership than Michael b******s will at Chelsea.
  6. Only to confirm that it was Jimmy Case on the ground. I was at the game but I can't remember what specifically caused the obvious difference of opinion
  7. With Berbatov scoring 20 Bundesliga goals this season, neither will Leverkusen......
  8. The rumour is that it was the dosh - though I don't really know whether he's the kind of player that Rijkaard would want. Bayern general manager Ulli Hoeness said they offered him 36 million euros over four years, he rejected it and they weren't prepared to go any higher.
  9. Germany's most talked about football topic of the season And the winner is......
  10. Is the correct attitude.....(in my humble opinoin , of course)
  11. Thanks a lot mate. Makes very interesting reading.
  12. With Benfica to win, of course
  13. There was a thread somewhere recently about Americans being glad to point Europe's problems with football violence, while stubbornly ignoring their own. Can any of you point me in the direction of a few links, as I can't seem to find the old thread. Thanks
  14. I'd be interested in the official source, as I've been looking for a few reliable sources on this. Also , as far as I'm aware, the "Blut und Boden" idea still applies - hence my above flippant post regarding Russians - This new development was described on one of the sites I read as a "supplement" to the law. But, as you say, definitely a step in the right direction.

  16. ....so Freudenberg's not the only place where irony doesn't translate well......

  20. Certainly is Roland Kock. Could the rest pf the team pass the test? They'd have to teach Kahn to write first..... Only if they can't play football.......
  21. For goals seem on TV, my absolute favourites are Terry Mac's magnificent 7th, David Fairclough against St. Etienne and Tommy Smith in the final against Gladbach. (And any of the three from Instanbul ) For goals personally witnessed: David Fairclough against the bitters in '75 after coming on as a sub, and, though the overall memory hurts, Jimmy Case in the '77 FA Cup final. A superb strike.
  22. A hairbrained idea consisting of 100 questions (to be answered in German of course) about great Germans and their literary, artistic, engineering, scientific and sporting achievements. Proposed by the Hesse CDU interior minster to test the worthiness of all who wish to take out German citizenship. So even if they needed an entirely new team, Bullard still wouldn't have a chance with that test
  23. Oh I don't know - I'm sure he's quite capable of fitting into any side that can lose 4-1- to Italy .... I'd love to see him take the new nationality test, though.
  24. Totally agree. In fact, they can win the title every year we don't for the next 10 years for all I care. They still won't be anywhere near our record if they do. Much sooner they win than have the munsters getting any closer.
